<a href="#comment-832" rel="nofollow">@Michelle</a>
I weened myself off pepsi and other pop drinks over the course of a year. There are more 'natural' carbonated drinks that can come in handy. The ultimate goal would be to get yourself to liking water more than these other choices.
Best of luck :)

Great article! Funny how many people turn to artificial sweeteners for weight loss, only to find out it doesn't work. Recent research shows that people eating fake sugar actually consume more calories.

<a href="#comment-832" rel="nofollow">@Michelle</a>
Both diet and regular pop are bad for you, regular pepsi contains high fructose corn syrup which is another non-natural sweetner that is very high in calories. I avoid high fructose corn syrup every time I can, I believe that I lost some weight by simply not consuming drinks (and foods) that contain high fructose corn syrup. You may be surprised to know that high fructose corn syrup is found in bread, cereal, fruit juice (i mean fruit juice that you buy in a store), even some milk products. Why do they add it to food? Many reasons but the ones that come to mind now are because it is a preservative and it is also habit forming (addictive). Have you ever wondered why your sliced bread never goes bad? Well, buy organic bread that does not have high fructose corn syrup and watch it go bad, if it grows fungus you know it is good for you, if it stays good for ever then it must have a preservative, like high fructose corn syrup.
I have not had a pop (soda, pepsi, etc) for almost 7 months now, I don't even crave it.. because I know what's in it and I cringe to the thought of putting all that acid and fake sweetener into my stomach. There are alternatives to pop / carbonated drinks that are less bad for you out there.

Next time you go shopping read the ingredients on your bread and on your store orange juice, I guarantee you will find high fructose corn syrup.

Thank you for this information. I need to face up to the fact that my daily diet pepsi could be harming my health. It may be time to give it up!

I was drinking diet soda pop for years before I realized that the "fuzzy" feeling in my head was caused by the aspartame. It kept getting worse as time went on, to the point I would nearly pass out and I couldn't think coherently. At times, I would slur my words as if I'd had a stroke. I finally decided to not touch artificial sweeteners of any sort again, and though it's only been since the new year, I'm already feeling better and have NONE of the symptoms I'd previously had. I'm certain I was being poisoned, especially since I had a "tinny" taste in my mouth all of the time, which now is gone as well.

Thanks for the article!

Thank you for your article. I agree with you a 100%
I just use plain old sugar and sea salt, none of that artificial **** :)
These artificial ones don't even taste good.

Honey can also be a great alternative to sugar :)

We don't always need science to re-invent what nature already provides us.

I was having severe sharp pains in my wrists, about 20 years ago. I told a friend about it. He knew about the artificial sweetener issue. He said that the toxins of the sweetener were settling in my wrists. He then pushed on two points, right below the crease of the elbow. It hurt like heck, but the wrists released the toxins. I haven't had a problem since, and never used sweetener since that time.
