Antioxidants Prevent Cancer and Some May Even Cure It

(OMNS Jan 24, 2013) It is widely accepted that antioxidants in the diet and supplements are one of the most effective ways of preventing cancer. Nevertheless, Dr. James Watson has recently suggested that antioxidants cause cancer and interfere with its treatment. James Watson is among the most renowned of living scientists. His work, together with that of others (Rosalind Franklin, Raymond Gosling, Frances Crick, and Maurice Wilkins) led to the discovery of the DNA double helix in 1953. Although his recent statement on antioxidants is misleading, the mainstream media has picked it up, which may cause some confusion.

Antioxidants: What’s Going On

Dr. Watson claims to have discovered that antioxidants promote the growth of late stage metastatic cancers. He says that this is “among my most important work since the double helix.” [1] We agree that the finding is fundamentally important, although it was not uniquely Watson’s discovery. Rather, it is standard orthomolecular medicine and has been known for years. [2,3] Within the body, antioxidant levels act as a signal, controlling cell division. In healthy cells and benign tumors, oxidants tend to increase cell proliferation, whereas antioxidants inhibit it. By contrast, the malignant tumor environment can be so strongly oxidizing that it is damaging and triggers cell death by apoptosis. In this case, antioxidants may help tumor cells proliferate and survive, by protecting the cells against oxidation and stimulating the malignancy to grow. For this reason, antioxidants may sometimes be contraindicated for use with malignant tumors, although there are particular exceptions to this.

And Oxidants?

The balance between oxidants and antioxidants is a key issue in the development of cancer, as has been known for decades. Watson appears to be behind the times in his appreciation of nutritional medicine and, surprisingly, to have misunderstood the processes of oxidation and reduction as applied to cancer. He correctly asserts that reactive oxygen species are a positive force for life; this is basic biology. They are also involved in aging, chronic illness, and cancer. Oxidants also cause free radical damage, thus the body generates large amounts of antioxidants to prevent harm and maintain health.

Back in the 1950s Dr. Reginald Holman treated the implanted tumors of experimental rats, by adding a dilute solution of hydrogen peroxide to their drinking water. [4] Hydrogen peroxide, an oxidant, delivers a primary redox (reduction/oxidation) signal in the body. The treatment cured more than half the rats (50-60%) within a period of two weeks to two months, with complete disappearance of the tumors. Holman also reported four human case studies, concerning people with advanced inoperable cancer. Two patients showed marked clinical improvement and tumor shrinkage. (Please note: we are not suggesting that people should consume hydrogen peroxide.) He published his findings in Nature, one of the most prestigious scientific periodicals of the day and, of course, the same journal that had presented Crick and Watson’s double helix papers, just four year earlier.

Orthomolecular medicine has advanced since those days; we now have safer and more effective techniques with which to attack cancer. Intravenous vitamin C is a good example. [5] Nevertheless, both modern orthomolecular and conventional treatments often rely indirectly on increasing hydrogen peroxide levels, and thus deliberately causing free radical damage within the tumor. Watson correctly identifies oxidation and free radical damage as primary mechanisms through which radiation and chemotherapeutic drugs slow cancer growth. He also states that cancer cell adaptation to oxidation is the method by which it becomes resistant to such treatment, although once again, this has been standard in cancer biology for decades. We agree with some of Watson’s assertions: that cancer research is overregulated; that a primary aim should be to cure late stage cancers; and that a cure for cancer could be achievable, given 5-10 years of properly targeted research. [6] However, we think he should become more familiar with progress in orthomolecular medicine, which is currently leading the way.

How Does Cancer Grow?

Cancer develops when cells multiply in the presence of oxidation and other damage. According to micro-evolutionary models, cells become damaged and change their behavior, growing uncontrollably, and act like the single-celled organisms from which they originally evolved. The cancer cells’ individualism overwhelms the cooperative control processes that are essential to a complex multicellular organism. Importantly, antioxidants limit oxidative damage and thus inhibit early benign cancer growth, preventing cancer from developing.

As cancers become malignant, they exhibit incredible genetic diversity. Whereas a benign tumor is like a colony of similar abnormal cells, a malignant tumor is a whole ecosystem. At this late stage, some (but not all) antioxidants can indeed promote cancer cell growth. Thousands of different cell types coexist: cooperating, competing, and struggling to survive. A consequence of the anaerobic conditions that prevail during the early development of a malignancy is that cancer cells differ from healthy cells, in that they have been selected for the way they generate energy (i.e. anaerobically, using glucose). Got The Sugar Blues? Duffy Has Good News!

sugar addictionI recently completed reading a book titled Sugar Blues by William Duffy, I picked it up at a closeout sale at a Borders bookstore for half price. I like this one, learned a few things from it and have since recommended it to a few friends. I also have largely gone on a sugar-free experiment. I also recommend you read this book, it’s a classic diet book, yet it sounds as if it was written a couple years ago, there might be a few outdated bits and pieces but again, this is a classic worth reading and has a wealth of insight to offer you. I had reduced my sugar intake for a few years, seeking to be “moderate”, this book is actually helping me far “very easily” resist sugar. I am almost sugar free these days. I appreciate the history in this book, you will learn about the history of sugar, and other things like fermenting, sauerkraut and beer. You will learn how sugar was invented, and you will be reminded that unlike salt (so essential people used it as currency in the past) sugar is a relatively new addition to our diet. This book touched me in a positive way, and I feel it will do the same with you. You just might never look at food and eating the same way again! all good positive things!

Well, what else does the book talk about? Duffy makes it clear how he dislikes how sugar is labeled (or not labeled) on products and how it is inaccurate to lump refined sugar with other healthy carbs under the same label name. See, not all carbs are the same, but a food label doesn’t tell you that, nor does it say how much added sugar is in a product. You might be surprised to learn what I learned about brown and raw sugar products, and what they put sugar in (ketchup, mayo, dressing, etc), you’ll read about sugar and the persians, indians, crusades, and even slavery! The book is easy to read as well, well documented and sourced.

Knowing what I know now, it is difficult to allow myself to eat sugar, and I have this book to thank. This books acts as an anti-sugar vaccine or an anti-sugar booster shot. If you crave sugar simply read this book and you will no longer crave it!

Sugar is not a nutrient, it is not empty calories either, it is actually an anti-nutrient, when you eat it you are eating something that takes away vitamins from your body to rid itself of sugar.. thus Duffy defines it as a poison, and I see why.

I’ve finished the book a weak ago only, I can say no to sugar now easily, I have resisted cravings and know what it feels like to eat sugar now vs. another source of calories, and I am still learning my body’s response and watching to see how my health will improve. I am unable to tolerate sugar in things now, many things smell and taste too sweet! I do not touch or crave the junk you find at gas stations or coffee shops. Instead of sugar I eat fruits, brown rice, potatoes etc.. real healthful calories. It’s a transition, for sure, but a good and natural one. I wish I had read this book 20yrs ago, as a kid I binged on sugar and now can see how it probably had negative effects on my health.

See, the thing is, “when it comes to sugar, the secret is not moderation but avoidance.”

If your TSH blood test is over 1.5  (not 5.0) you likely are hypothyroid, confirm this with a free T3 and free T4 tests

Iodine deficiency is a common cause of hypothyroidism. Get enough Iodine , use SSKI to get Iodine

Avoid soy (it induces hypothyroidism) especially un-fermented  soy

Use coconut oil

If you are hypothyroid, hormones can be used, Synthroid (T4) and other synthetic hormones are not recommended. If you have not been on synthetic hormones for a long time using armour thyroid is better (gives you T1, T2, T3 and T4). Eventually you may be able to not need hormones at all. Your allopathic physician will prescribe synthetic drugs, a holistic doctor will prescribe armour thyroid instead.

I take Iodoral or Lugols and eat sea weed to get iodine into my diet. I do “not” use table salt. Table salt should be avoided. Also cruciferous vegetables inhibit the thyroid and they should be steamed before being eaten to remedy this.

ABSTRACT

A definitive review and close reading of medical peer-review journals, and government health statistics shows that American medicine frequently causes more harm than good. The number of people having in-hospital, adverse drug reactions (ADR) to prescribed medicine is 2.2 million.1 Dr. Richard Besser, of the CDC, in 1995, said the number of unnecessary antibiotics prescribed annually for viral infections was 20 million. Dr. Besser, in 2003, now refers to tens of millions of unnecessary antibiotics.2, 2a

The number of unnecessary medical and surgical procedures performed annually is 7.5 million.3 The number of people exposed to unnecessary hospitalization annually is 8.9 million.4 The total number of iatrogenic deaths shown in the following table is 783,936. It is evident that the American medical system is the leading cause of death and injury in the United States. The 2001 heart disease annual death rate is 699,697; the annual cancer death rate, 553,251.5

We could have an even higher death rate by using Dr. Lucien Leape?s 1997 medical and drug error rate of 3 million. 14 Multiplied by the fatality rate of 14% (that Leape used in 199416 we arrive at an annual death rate of 420,000 for drug errors and medical errors combined. If we put this number in place of Lazorou?s 106,000 drug errors and the Institute of Medicine?s (IOM) 98,000 medical errors, we could add another 216,000 deaths making a total of 999,936 deaths annually.

The enumerating of unnecessary medical events is very important in our analysis. Any medical procedure that is invasive and not necessary must be considered as part of the larger iatrogenic picture. Unfortunately, cause and effect go unmonitored. The figures on unnecessary events represent people (?patients?) who are thrust into a dangerous healthcare system. They are helpless victims. Each one of these 16.4 million lives is being affected in a way that could have a fatal consequence. Simply entering a hospital could result in the following:

  1. In 16.4 million people, 2.1% chance of a serious adverse drug reaction,1 (186,000)
  2. In 16.4 million people, 5-6% chance of acquiring a nosocomial infection,9 (489,500)
  3. In16.4 million people, 4-36% chance of having an iatrogenic injury in hospital (medical error and adverse drug reactions),16 (1.78 million)

Don’t Eat Like The Pharaohs

Many 2,000 to 3,500 years old mummies show obvious signs of periodontal diseases, abscesses and cavities.

After examining research of more than 3,000 mummies, anatomists and paleopathologists at the University of Zurich concluded that 18 percent of all mummies in case reports showed a nightmare array of dental diseases.

“Evidence of dental disorders is plentiful because usually teeth are among the best preserved parts of a body. As for other diseases, the published studies do not always provide in-depth details. Nevertheless, we came across some interesting findings,” senior author and medical doctor Frank Ruhli, head of the Swiss Mummy Project at the University of Zurich, told Discovery News.

Published in the Journal of Comparative Human Biology (HOMO), the review takes into consideration all studies published since 1977, when computed tomography was first applied to ancient Egyptian mummies.

Comment:

Degenerative and infectious diseases were also very common. The most common cases included: Osteoarthritis, atherosclerosis (a hardening of the arteries), chronic infectious middle ear diseases, tuberculosis, gangrenous stomatitis, gangrene of the cheek and gums, and tumorous lesions were all found.

Just because the ancient Egyptians (and their mummified bodies) had periodontal diseases does not mean that everyone must get periodontal diseases. What this finding tells us is that we do not want the Egyptian life style, what they ate must have contributed to their tooth decay.

In other words, you may consider the ancient Egyptian civilization as a really ancient one, and the fact that even they back then suffered dental diseases shows that it is “normal” for humans to experience such conditions. This logic is flawed, what the mummies show us is that the ancient Egyptians (and their civilization) did something that had a negative effect on their teeth.

One must know that despite the Egyptian mummies having tooth decay issues, that Dr. Weston Price found many “uncivilized” tribes had immaculate teeth, other fossil records show ancient human teeth that are in very good condition; these people did not have brushes, tooth paste or mouth washes. They also did not live in what we term a “civilized” society, rather they had a natural diet and life style.

Both ancient Egyptians and the modern humans suffer from periodontal diseases due to their “civilized” diet and life style and not because it is “normal for everyone” to experience periodontal diseases as some would like to you beleive.

Oral Cleanliness is Not the Best Known Means for the Control of Dental Caries – Weston Price

Oral cleanliness is not the best known means for the control of dental caries because:

(I) Since primitive man has had high immunity to dental caries he becomes our control in the great experiment of civilizations.

It is essential there fore, that we study the controlling factors of his environment, of which he is the product, and use these as our yardstick for studying modern civilization.

For this I have studied remnants of several primitive racial stocks where their physical isolation had sheltered them from the influences of our modern civilization, and by studying them and their foods and their methods of living, certain underlying factors are found to be common to all these primitive groups, even though they were living in different countries and on very different foods. This permits us to critically analyze modern civilizations at their points of contact with the primitives and, by studying them and their problems with the standards of immune primitives, not the factors which are contributing to dental caries.

By studying the children in four isolated valley in Switzerland; Loetschental, Visperterminen, Grachen, and Ayer in the Swiss Alps, I found the incidence of dental caries to be only 4.6 percent of the teeth studied. Here oral prophylaxis and modern equipment for practicing it were largely unknown. At St. Moritz, however, at approximately the same altitude, which is highly modernized community with excellent training in oral prophylaxis, the incidence of caries was 29.8 per cent of teeth studied.

At Vissoie and Zinal, which were partially modernized, 22 percent of the teeth examined had been attacked by dental caries. At Herisau, in the plains country of Switzerland, also a highly modernized community with splendid instruction and equipment for mouth cleanliness, the incidence of cares was 24.7 per cent of the teeth examined.

Similar studies were made in the Outer Hebrides off the west coast of Scotland and revealed that in the isolated districts of the Isles of Lewis and Harris, only 1.2 percent of the teeth examined has been attacked by dental caries. Oral prophylaxes was almost unknown. In the ports and modernized sections the incidence of dental caries was found to be 30 per cent of teeth examined.

The natural foods available for these two primitive groups wee very different in origin, but similar in chemical content, as will presently be shown.

Similarly, studies were made of remnants of the primitive Eskimos and Indians of Alaska and northern Canada and of those individuals of these groups who are at the point of contact with modern civilization.

The Eskimos of western and northern Alaska were reached by airplane and for several groups who had been but little influenced by modern civilization, hence living entirely on native foods, the per cent of teeth found to have been attacked by dental caries was 0.09, that is, only two teeth out of 2138 in seventy-two individuals. No effort apparently had ever been made at oral prophylaxis in these groups.

At the point of contact with modern civilization, where a government supply boat comes once a year to provision a government state, the incidence of caries among the local Eskimos increased to 13 per cent of the teeth, or 394 teeth out of 2254 in eighty-one individuals. At this point oral prophylaxis was being taught and practiced and, in spite of it, the increase in dental caries was 144-fold. The controlling factors in producing these changes will presently be shown to be nutritional. The natural food of the primitive Eskimos was almost entirely the animal life of the sea.

I now place in everyone’s hand the complete answer to tooth cavities. Following this procedure there will not be one more cavity, one more gingivitis case, or one more fluorosed, brittle, cracked tooth in the world. Bad teeth in Ireland, Canada, the USA, Britain, Australia and New Zealand will now be curbed. The 55-year fight with fluoride promoters (dentists) in these countries is over since research now establishes for certain that fluoride makes the teeth WORSE and not better (refs 1,2,3). My book, Good Teeth, Birth to Death lays out in no uncertain terms all the detail to achieve my claims.

I have talked to thousands of people about their teeth, many of whom have perfect teeth. In all those cases of perfect teeth, the practice of rinsing while eating has been the reason, and not fluoride. I am convinced that perfect teeth have little or nothing to do with genetics. The best way to have perfect teeth besides staying away from greedy or incompetent dentists is to pursue the following behavior:

  1. Rinse acids off the teeth during eating (ref 4).
  2. Brush the teeth with bar soap (ref 5).
  3. Take calcium pills with vitamin D daily (ref 6).
  4. Take monosodium phosphate daily (ref 7).
  5. Take freshly made sodium ascorbate daily for gum connections to the teeth (ref 8).
  6. Dispense with the worry that bacteria harm teeth: THEY CANNOT (ref 9).
  7. Dispense with the worry that sugar destroys teeth. I find sugar has little or nothing to do with cavities (ref 10).
  8. Avoid all fluoride products. They destroy teeth, unravel enzymes and cause 113 ailments (ref 11).

(ref 1) J Pub Health Dentistry, Nov 1993. This article states we have a tooth decay epidemic in the US since 42% of people over 65 years of age have no natural teeth, 44-year-olds have an average of 30 decays, 17-year-olds have an average of 11 decays, the blacks and the poor are twice as bad as this and the American Indians have four times the tooth trouble. American Indians have free dental care, and have had since almost the beginning of fluoridation. If fluoride helped prevent cavities at a rate of 80% per 15 years as the proponents of fluoride claimed in the beginning of the early studies of the forties, US residents would now have less than 2 cavities per person (my calculation).

(ref 2) In MediZine, V6 #2, April of 2000, the American Dental Association again states that a dental epidemic exists and 42% of those over 65 years of age and 25% of those over 44 years of age have no natural teeth. They admit their ignorance as to why.

(ref 3) 4 curves representing a total of 480,000 students and covering over 30 years of study indicate that the increasing concentration of fluoride in drinking water from 0 to 1 ppm increases the cavities 7, 43, 22 and 10% in Japan, Tucson, India and the US (see GTBD, pp 44,45,46 and 49). In other words, fluoridation about doubles cavitation from the normal (my calculation). Numerous studies verify the fact that fluoridation of water increases cavities.

(ref 4) Tooth enamel (essentially calcium phosphate) reacts with all acids to form cavities (see any chemistry text dealing with solubilities). The proton of the acid pulls the phosphate right out of the enamel, and fast. By drinking a sip of water along with the acid during eating, the acid reacts chemically with water immediately to form hydronium ion and thus the enamel is saved. One can use milk or coffee for the same purpose, since they are both non-acidic. Dr. Albert Schatz, Nobelist who discovered streptomycin, found several decades ago that sharks’ teeth with their excessive fluoride would dissolve just as readily in citric acid as ordinary non-fluoridated teeth, laying to rest the hypothesis that fluoride would stop cavities. The dental people (American Dental Association) pushed aside this discovery and Dr. Schatz’ discoveries regarding excessive baby mortalities caused by fluoridation in Chili, South America as insignificant. They returned his mail 3x unopened and would not deal with him.

Some harmful acids (with pH <4) which are tart to the taste and attack the enamel include lemons, grapefruit, oranges, pineapple, kiwi fruit, tomatoes, vinegar, cider, vitamin C (especially chewable) and stomach acid. The lower the pH, the more rapidly the acids attack. Body acid (extremely weak) is insignificant in this process. Non-acid foods such as beans, bread and potatoes have no action on teeth. Worry about such foods is over. The only worry about non-acid foods is if they will crack the teeth due to their hardness. Chewing ice, unpopped corn kernels, extremely hard nuts, bones or other hard objects is not smart, since teeth do have a breaking strength.

(ref 5) Reenamelization of the teeth occurs when they are clean. All toothpastes make a barrier of glycerine on the teeth which would require 20 rinses to get it off. A good solution for clean teeth, which I have used for 5 years, is bar soap. Wet the brush, swipe the bar two or three times with it, then brush the teeth thoroughly and the gums gently. Rinse with water three or four times. All oils are washed off the teeth and the gums are disinfected. The bacteria are killed by the soap. The teeth are then ready for reenamelization with calcium and phosphate in the diet. The enzyme adenosine diphosphatase delivers phosphate to the enamel surface. Do not use liquid soaps. Their different composition is harmful to the protoplasm.

Ingredients to Avoid in Personal Care, Hygiene and Beauty Products

chemicalsI encourage you to check the ingredients listed on of your hair, skin, body, dental and personal hygiene products (i.e. shampoos, soap, tooth pastes, moisturizing creams, hair coloring, etc). Note that ingredients are listed by their weight, so the ones listed first make up more of the product than the ones listed last.

When reading the ingredients you are looking for the hidden carcinogens, irritants and other harmful ingredients. You may expect a lot of the cheap shampoo brands like Suave, Dove, VO5 and Pert Plus to contain bad ingredients, but you should know that some of the expensive, all natural or even organic brands may contain harmful ingredients.

Check the label of any product before purchasing it, inhaling it, eating it or applying on your skin (or on anything that you will touch or eat, including your pets).

This article will inform you about a few, but most common, of these harmful chemicals that belong in a chemistry lab, not your house, in mouth, or on your skin or hair. Don’t take my word for it, do your own research on these chemicals and make up your mind. This list is here to alert you, if you want to learn more Google is your friend.

I am not a chemist, I did not make any discoveries, I simply took the time to search online for all the bad ingredients first for my own use (as I was forgetting the names of the ingredients to avoid as my list kept getting longer) .. Now my list is posted here in this article, conveniently for you on one page, hopefully for someone out there to find helpful.

Here’s the list, with some details:

* Phthalates: Industrial compounds found in shampoos that enter the body through the skin and wreak havoc on the endocrine system. In fact, phthalates are associated with male obesity, insulin resistance and reduced sperm production.

* Triclosan: The University of Vermont lists triclosan as an antibacterial found in shampoos that interferes with normal bacterial levels in the body with continued use. Dilution in water can cause triclosan to mutate into a form of dioxin.

* Paraphenylenediamine, or 1,4-diaminobenzene, a contact allergen that is often used in the manufacture of black hair dyes and shampoos.

* Sodium Chloride (Salt – NaCI): Used to increase the viscosity in some cosmetics. Can cause eye and skin irritation if used in too high concentrations (Hampton). Its usually used to make a cheap, watery consistency product look thick and rich instead.

* Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS): Very harsh. Found in most shampoos, the manufacturers use it because it produces a lot of foam and it is cheap. Used in cleaning car engines. Northwestern Health Sciences University explains that sodium lauryl sulfate, found in some shampoo formulas, may actually alter your skin’s structure, allowing for deeper chemical penetration. Deep penetration makes it easier for dangerous chemicals to enter your blood stream. Showed penetration into the eyes, as well as systemic tissues (brain, heart, liver, etc.). SLS also shows long-term retention in tissues. In soaps and shampoos, there is an immediate concern relating to the penetration of these chemicals into the eyes and other tissues. This is especially important in infants, where considerable growth is occurring, because a much greater uptake occurs by tissues of younger eyes and SLS changes the amounts of some proteins in cells from eye tissues. Tissues of young eyes may be more susceptible to alternation by SLS (Green). Forms nitrates, a possible carcinogen when used in shampoos and cleansers containing nitrogen-based ingredients. These nitrates can enter the blood stream in large numbers from shampooing, bubble baths, bath and shower gels and facial cleansers. These synthetic substances are used in shampoos for their detergent and foam-building abilities. They can cause eye irritations, skin rashes, hair loss, scalp scurf similar to dandruff and allergic reactions. They are frequently disguised in pseudo-natural cosmetics with the parenthetic explanation “comes from coconut.” (Hampton) Dr. David H. Fine, the chemist who uncovered NDELA contamination in cosmetics, estimates that a person would be applying 50 to 100 micrograms of nitrosamine to the skin each time he or she used a nitrosamine-contaminated cosmetic. By comparison, a person consuming sodium nitrite-preserved bacon is exposed to less than 1 microgram of nitrosamine (Hampton).

* Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES) – milder, but still harsh Used as a wetting agent in the textile industry. Irritating to scalp and may cause hair loss (Wright).
Chemical name: Sodium Lauryl “ether” Sulfate An ether chain is added to SLS. Called a premium agent in cleansers and shampoos.
In reality it is very inexpensive but thickens when salt is added in the formula and produces high levels of foam to give the concentrated illusion it is thick, rich and expensive. .

A pioneer in alternative cancer treatment, Josef Issels, M.D. of Germany achieved remarkable remissions, even in advanced cancer patients through a combination of therapies. The methods he employed included removing sties of “focal infection,” such as infected teeth and tonsils. He believed they release toxins into the system that lower resistance and trigger disease. His experience showed a direct connection between dental and tonsillar foci and many of the illnesses responsible for early debilitation and untimely invalidizing. A survey conducted at his clinic found that on admission 90% of the adult cancer patients had between two and ten dead teeth. Very often he was confronted with x-ray negative dead teeth, root remnants and residual ostitis which had not been diagnosed and therefore, had not been removed.

Never Get A Root Canal

Below I summarize an article titled “Why You Should Never Get A Root Canal” posted on January 16, 2010

Three major issues that are wrong in the main stream dental professions are:

1- mercury-filled amalgams,
2- root canals
3- any sort of dental filling material imaginable

It’s a good idea to remove existing root canals and to definitely avoid getting any new ones. Once a tooth is removed the empty space where the tooth was will be filled up with bone in due time.

Dentists say that a root canal allows one to hold on to their tooth -> Comment: a dead tooth.

Dentists will also tell you that bacteria wont be an issue, this is incorrect. Studies on thousands of teeth have demonstrated the presence of bacteria in 80% to 90% of the canals after they have been “sterilized.” -> I know an oral surgeon that removes root canals, she said they always smell bad, look bad and are infected!

Root canals are very profitable to the dentists.

“Modern testing procedures have confirmed the work of Dr. Weston Price’s research using DNA analysis, making any claim by the ADA that Price’s research being “outdated,” is an attempt to keep the public blind over the real dangers of root canals.”

“Dr. Josef Issels of Germany found that in his 40 years of treating terminal, end-stage cancer patients, 97% of them had root canals. He would not initiate his successful treatments until all root canals had been removed.”

“According to Dr. Weston Price, the primary bacteria found in root canals includes streptococcus, staphylococcus, and spirochetes. He found 90% of the bacteria in the teeth that produced the patients’ acute diseases were streptococcus and 65.5% of the time they belonged to the fecalis family. ”

This bacteria, enters the blood stream and travels to organs or tissue. -> Comment: This bacteria is extremely toxic, many times over, anaerobic bacteria have been found and identified in and around root canals.

Billions of bacteria live in and around root canals, they create the most toxic organic substances known such as “thio-ethers” these are 1000 times more toxic than botulism toxin, which used to be considered the most toxic organic substance.

“Mercury is the second most toxic substance on the planet, next to plutonium. When mercury or other dental filling material exchanges with bacteria, the harm becomes magnified.”

“The Toxic Element Research Foundation, headed by Dr. Hal Huggins has uncovered extremely disturbing data concerning the implications of root canal bacteria and various autoimmune diseases.”  This information, like many new and enlightening scientific discoveries throughout history has been ignored by mainstream dentists.

Know that “most dentists are ill-equipped in the removal of both amalgams and root canals.” Upon the removal of root canals, it is suggested by Dr. Hal Huggins to have a treatment of intravenous ascorbic acid (vitamin C) to help kill of the microbes.

To remove amalgam fillings, a special dentist should be found that specializes in this. Incorrect removal, residual toxicity can result. -> Comment: Most dentists that are not equipped will refuse to remove the amalgam since it is considered “toxic” and if they remove it without proper measure they will risk being poisoned themselves.

Root Canals, Nickle Braces, Crowns and Dentures Linked to Heart Attacks and Cancer!

Most of the dentists will answer your question int he same fashion claiming that root canals are safe, that nickle is not an issue, that amalgams in your mouth are not toxic, etc..

You gotta wonder why the main stream doctors are so .. docile. Is it simple ignorance, is it the result of an education system that teaches people to memorize and not question, are the dentists too busy working they don’t have time for personal research, maybe they lack motivation to research new findings, or maybe it is a convenient oversight when it comes to them making more money vs. speaking out against the “norms”.

“More than 75% of the crowns placed today are nickel, and that is present in braces. Here we call it stainless steel. It is like silver fillings, it doesn’t have much silver in it, and you would pay for silver and gold what you wouldn’t pay for mercury. So it kind of boils down to a matter of salesmanship, and stainless steel sound pretty prestigious, so they put that in children, and what happens? You see teenage behaviour that may not have been there a few days before the braces were put on.

At the University of Colorado when I was nearly 50 years old I went back to take a degree in immunology because I could see I was affecting the immune system. The first case we studied, we took a woman and put braces on her, and I am kind of sensitive to immunology, I studied it for 4 years, and about 2 weeks after that I only knew about 2% of what was going on in immunology, it is a field that is expanding very rapidly, but a term I hear many people saying is – you know this product it boosts your immune system. How does it do that? What does it do to the T4′s and the T 8′s?-.when you can study the cells of the immune system with the sophisticated equipment we have, and we can find that in this case I put the braces in. We did all the sophisticated testing, we put the braces in, and then the patients ends up with big bruises on her thigh. How did they get there? Well, a little sloppy dentistry, but these are huge bruises, no trauma involved there. Emotional things, a lot of change. Sleeping patterns, the first thing to change in an immunological challenge? Yes, big changes there. Things begin to look a little uncomfortable by day 3 so we took the conventional blood test, and what did I find? Nothing I could identify at that time, but this was 10 years ago. Today I could identify it, then I couldn’t, but things were still getting worse, and that afternoon we did the T subsets over again and what did we find? Immune system shutdown. I mean the T4′s were zero, the T8′s were zero, T11′s were zero. All of these things may not have a lot of meaning, but I can tell you zero is not where they should be. Within a few hours of death. We decided maybe we better take the braces off. The patients was for it, the faculty was for it, I was for it, I mean this was my wife we are talking about so it is not a real scientific case. So we took the braces off and the immune system came back-in 3 moths we were almost half way back where we were 3 days before. It does not recover overnight.

And I have other records on my desk where they did not take the braces off on the fourth day, and the reports show the same changes in the white blood cells, the same changes in the red blood cells, the same changes in the body temperature, everything is identical except when we get to day 4 and the braces were not removed, that was the last date that was entered on the autopsy reports, because these kids died, as they can with what is called the chrome crowns. That is a cutesy little term, chrome crowns, but these kids, I see them in the airport all the time – and I see little kids with tri-focals on, glasses about that thick. When did you have your chrome crown placed? I see people pushing along in a wheelchair. I wonder when did you have your root canal done? Because root canals so far have turned out to be one of the most vile things that I have ever run into, and my life for the last 20 years has been with a lot of vile essense

In California we found a woman who had some nickel crowns placed, she ended up with a specific type of breast tumour and she went through the lumpectomy, she went to the support group afterwards, and she said to me you know my husband was talking to this guy out in Colorado about nickel being carcinogenic.

What does that mean?

That mean it produces cancer.

Do you suppose there is any relationship between my crowns and my breast tumour?

Another woman in the group said – well I went to Dr So and So dentist down the street here.

Root Canal Dangers and Cover-Up :: Interview with Dr. George Meining, D.D.S.

About sixty years ago, Dr. Meinig was one of the founders of the American Association of Endodontists (root canal specialists).  Naturally, he has filled his share of root canals and when he wasn’t filling canals himself, he was teaching the technique to dentists across the country at weekend seminars and clinics.

He offered the world his experienced perspective on root canals exposing their latent dangers. About six years ago, having recently retired, he decided to read all 1174 pages of the detailed research of Dr. Weston Price, (D.D.S).

Upon reading these papers Dr. Meinig was startled and shocked. They provided valid documentation of systemic illnesses resulting from latent infections lingering in filled roots.

Dr. Meinig has since written a book entitled “Root Canal Cover-Up EXPOSED – Many Illnesses Result”, and has devoted himself to radio, TV, and personal appearances before groups in an attempt to blow the whistle and alert the public.

Root Canals Pose Health Threat

MJ Please explain what the problem is with root canal therapy.

GM First, let me note that my book is based on Dr. Weston Price’s twenty-five years of careful, impeccable research. He led a 60-man team of researchers whose findings – suppressed until now rank right up there with the greatest medical discoveries of all time. This is not the usual medical story of a prolonged search for the difficult-to-find causative agent of some devastating disease. Rather, it’s the story of how a “cast of millions” (of bacteria) become entrenched inside the structure of teeth and end up causing the largest number of diseases ever traced to a single source.

MJ What diseases? Can you give us some examples?

GM Yes, a high percentage of chronic degenerative diseases can originate from root filled teeth. The most frequent were heart and circulatory diseases and he found 16 different causative agents for these. The next most common diseases were those of the joints, arthritis and rheumatism. In third place – but almost tied for second – were diseases of the brain and nervous system. After that, any disease you can name might (and in some cases has) come from root filled teeth.

Let me tell you about the research itself. Dr. Price undertook his investigations in 1900. He continued until 1925, and published his work in two volumes in 1923. In 1915 the National Dental Association (which changed its name a few years later to The American Dental Association) was so impressed with his work that they appointed Dr. Price their first Research Director. His Advisory Board read like a Who’s Who in medicine and dentistry for that era. They represented the fields of bacteriology, pathology, rheumatology, surgery, chemistry, and cardiology.

At one point in his writings Dr. Price made this observation: “Dr. Frank Billings (M.D.), probably more than any other American internist, is due credit for the early recognition of the importance of streptococcal focal infections in systemic involvements.”

What’s really unfortunate here is that very valuable information was covered up and totally buried some 70 years ago by a minority group of autocratic doctors who just didn’t believe or couldn’t grasp – the focal infection theory.

Don’t Smell This!

Did you know that some of the smells that people like are harmful to them?

Here are some examples of smells that indicate the presence of carcinogens or irritants:

* A typical magazine (Times, Newsweek, or Cosmopolitan,..), or a brand new book. Open it and smell (just for 1 second). That new book or magazine smell is nothing but the smell of anywhere from  3 to 10 different carcinogen compounds  (from color, paper, glue, printing, cover, etc)

* New car: That new car smell is caused by carcinogens, paints, polishes, water repellents, flame retardants, coating, plastics

* Gasoline: Some people love that gasoline smell, gasoline is another airborne carcinogen. Some gas stations will have signs informing you of that. So do not inhale the gas fumes when you are filling up.  I stand upwind from the nozzle.

* Basement / Garage / Storage: If you have basement under your house, or a storage room, do not store old paints, solvents, chemicals.

* Flowers: Many flowers have chemicals on them!

* Hair spray: Don’t inhale that!

* Soaps, perfumes, detergents and softeners. These smells are not normal, they are chemicals. I sneeze when I smell these.

Many people breath carcinogens from the paints they paint their house with, from the paints that furniture is painted, and from other products they bring into the house. It’s a good idea to air your house or apartment periodically to get some clean air in and bad air out.

Don’t take my word for it, research everything I said here and be an informed consumer. The businesses selling you these wonderful products wont tell you how they effect your (and your childrens’ and pets’) health. Consumer, beware.

I found and became a member of Dental Amalgam Mercury Solutions (DAMS) a non profit educational organization, based in Minnesota, that can help you learn about your teeth health, fluoride, amalgams, tooth extraction, root canals, biological and holistic dentists, etc.. Is there a cover-up of these many dental – health hazards? It appears so. We understand that the dental industry and the American Dental Association (ADA) dismiss these many health concerns and many of us view their dismissal, their claims of amalgam safety as dishonest and a cover-up. We don’t know what the ADA’s inner thinking is, but behaps the ADA feels that, since it has defended and promoted the use of mercury amalgam fillings throughout its entire history, it could not survive if it were to admit that it has been wrong over the last century and a half, as mis-informed and harmed millions of people, including its own dentist members, some of them seriously, through its cover-up. Most of the media also participates in cover-up even though, based on the science and the clinical record, the cover-up should be over and amalgams should be banned in the USA. We note that amalgams have been banned in Norway and Sweden, so it is possible for the truth, and a responsible public policy, to triumph in a functioning democracy. Unfortunately, here in the USA the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) appears to be captured by the ADA, and remains in cover-up mode. No matter how much damning science is presented to the FDA Dental Division and how many case reports of patient injury are presented, FDA remains in a state of denial and cover-up of the hazards of dental amalgam fillings.

Non-profits to the rescue. DAMS is a tax-exempt educational non-profit organization helping educate people in the US, Canada and elsewhere on these very important dental-health issues. People who wish to get their dental amalgam fillings removed should find knowledgeable practitioners who can remove amalgams safely, with elaborate precautions to protect the patient. Such knowledgeable dentists are not merely “mercury-free” or “cosmetic” dentists; they should be “holistic” or “biological” dentists, meaning that they pay attention to the effects that their work has on the whole person and on his/her underlying health. We must emphasize that it is very hazardous to have mercury amalgam fillings replaced by a “regular” (i.e. conventional) dentist who does not have the training and equipment to replace the amalgams with elaborate precautions.  DAMS maintains a list of holistic (biological) dentists in every state and province who are trained and equipped to replace amalgams safely. Hopefully they will also use better choice replacement materials, use natural, less toxic approaches to gum health and decay prevention (no fluoride) and be aware of the hazards of root canal treatments. The Best Probiotic Products

Probiotics are beneficial bacteria that occur naturally in the human intestinal tract. Foods “cultured” with beneficial strains of probiotics such as yogurt and kefir have been used throughout history to improve overall health and vitality, and today, there are many studies reinforcing probiotics’ ability to balance and promote digestive health.

Probiotics also play an important role in modulating the immune system, 70% of which is located in the gut. The word “probiotic” means “for life”, “antibiotics” means “anti life”. I cannot emphasize enough the importance of healthy gut flora. The benefits of probiotics don’t end there, in fact many have reported the disappearance of acne, better skin texture, better hair, the halting of male pattern baldness, ending Candida, even Fibromyalgia, migraines were stopped, and allergies and inflammation reduced by having good gut flora.

“Why take probiotics daily?” you may be wondering. Well, our modern/civilized life has been detrimental to healthy gut flora. Refined sugars, adulterated grains and foods, chemicals, medication, fluoride and chlorine in drinking and cooking water, pasteurization of milk, amongst many other factors can kill off good gut flora and/or allow less-beneficial and sometimes harmful bacteria to take over. Dump Your Water If You Want To Go In & Then Buy Water From Me!

BasilicaI went to the Basilica Block Party yesterday. If you know me then you know I am not big on parties, concerts, loud music, etc.. I was invited to go so I went. People were much better well behaved than I expected, I think Minnesotans are generally nice and polite and this contributed to the party situation. Maybe the fact this was a Basilica party also made a difference. The music was fun, especially the Barenaked Ladies band (the Chinese Chicken song).

What I did not like was how party admission volunteer staff had everyone get rid of any food or beverages (including water). I understand that they would like people to not bring food or alcohol or even soft drinks, but water is a different story.

I felt that asking people to get rid of their water was an overreaching rule (and a wasteful one). They were filling trash container after another with bottles of water and other drinks, a huge waste.

I did not have my own water bottle with me, so I did not have to get rid of anything. But, had I had water I would have felt very uncomfortable doing that and probably would have refused.

Once I was inside the fenced, barricaded “camp” you could only buy water from a few places and each bottle was sold for $4!  A $1 bottle for $4!

I call this an abuse of power, even extortion. It also felt like an infringement on my human and constitutional rights. Further, you could buy food and beer from many vendors, water was only available at a couple places, no free (fountain) water was available.

What If I said No?

The next time I go to a party I will take my water bottle with me, and I will refuse to throw out my water. If they insist I do, I will say I need it because of health reasons. If they say “no” I will ask for FREE water inside. If they say “no”, I will write about it here again and will then consult with an attorney to see if I could take legal action.

As far as I am concerned what they did was extortion in order for me to buy water from them at their inflated prices.

You may have to wait a few years before I get to try this, since I rarely go to parties like these.

To the Basilica of Saint Mary I say, “please do not extort me again”. Just, “stop it, now”.

Report Of Heavy Metals and Pesticide Contaminantion Paves The Way To Oversight Of Supplement Industry

WEDNESDAY, May 26 (HealthDay News) — A Congressional investigation of dietary herbal supplements has found trace amounts of lead, mercury and other heavy metals in nearly all products tested, plus myriad illegal health claims made by supplement manufacturers, The New York Times reported Wednesday.

The levels of heavy metal contaminants did not exceed established limits, but investigators also discovered troubling and possibly unacceptable levels of pesticide residue in 16 of 40 supplements, the newspaper said.

Products that purport to treat or relieve disease must go through strict reviews because they are considered drugs by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

One witness scheduled to testify, Dr. Tod Cooperman, president of ConsumerLab.com, said supplements with too little of the indicated ingredients and those contaminated with heavy metals are the major problems. In testing more than 2,000 dietary supplements from some 300 manufacturers, his lab has found that one in four has quality problems.

Commentary:

I was unable to find any information naming the supplements or supplement companies that tested positive for contamination (so I can avoid them).  I am perplexed why the research findings were not shared. I am more concerned about contamination than the so called misleading claims.We live in a world full of claims, one must do their own research to verify such claims.

I believe that one cannot say all supplement companies sell contaminated products.

Summer, The (Lawn Chemicals) Allergy Season

sneeze2Many may sneeze here and there during the spring and summer seasons due to pollen, dust, and other particles in the air. Sneezing is our body’s natural response for protecting itself against harmful particles in the air. Most blame the plants and nature on their allergic reaction. In this article I hope to share one often overlooked allergen, that is not only sneeze-inducing but also potentially hazardous to health.

I am sensitive to the smell of chemicals, especially those sprayed on yards and lawns. When I visit a home improvement store, I literally cannot walk down the isle where pesticides, herbicides, fertilizers are shelved. If I find myself in close proximity, the smell disgusts me and can even make me feel sick, not to mention I start to sneeze.

The harmful and annoying effects of these chemicals seems to often be missing in the mainstream awareness. I rarely hear talk about lawn chemicals and that throat burning chemical smell unique to these chemicals, how they are over used, abused, and often confused with the notion of a healthy lawn.

As I drove to work this morning, I could see chemical spraying vehicles from a local company proudly proclaiming “true green”. A sobering and sad reminder that summer is here. Don’t get me wrong, I adore summer. I loath the chemicals used in the summer.

I got to work, parked my car next to a lawn that was reeking with the chemical smell. As I exited my vehicle heading to my work place I sneezed.

Everybody wants that truly green lawn, right? Wrong, I don’t. I never use chemicals on my lawn, it is not the greenest, nor the prettiest, but that is not my concern. I value safety and doing no harm to others and nature more than a green lawn. My lawn is not polluting your air, making you sneeze or poisoning your air.

When you use chemicals on your lawn here is what you are doing: You are paying factories to make synthetic poisonous chemicals, tons and tons of them (due to consumer demand). You then pay them to package these in plastic containers (plastic waste), ship them all over the US (green house gases due to transportation). You follow that by doing your consumer duty, you grab the chemicals and spray them over your land. If you want better results, you pay a little more, and you get a vehicles assuring you “true green lawns”, this vehicles is one super pray bottle, it is filled with chemicals that should they be dumped in a pond would kill all the fish. You watch as they proudly spray that poison over your grass, you think it’s a small price to pay for the result, my beautiful green lawn is just around the corner. You also may believe the lie that your grass is safe to touch, lay down on, walk barefoot on, within 3 days or a week.

Once these chemicals have been manufactured in the factory (thanks to consumer demand) they are here to stay. When these are sprayed on your grass, so much of this chemical vapor goes into the air, on your trees, on your house siding, into your windows; the air blows this chemical residue on to your neighbors property, onto their vegetable garden, and into their open windows. The chemicals on the grass or in the soil don’t stay there either; sooner or later rain will push these chemicals down into the soil and eventually into ground water, it will pollute the soil for many years and ground water for decades. If you live close to a lake or marsh rain will wash off the chemicals into the lakes drastically effecting the ecosystem, killing fish increasing algae and effecting those who eat the fish and swim in the lake.

One often missed point, is that once you cut the grass, as the mower chops the glass and shakes it violently, these chemicals are released into the air again. Ultimately, the use of these chemicals and the impact they have on nature contributes to weakening people’s immune systems and causing cancer.

If you have children, seriously reconsider chemicals in your yard and lawn. Grass is very attractive, don’t turn it into a poisonous trap for your kids.

Respect your neighbors, you most likely do not throw trash into your neighbors house, yet you are ‘ok’ allowing the release of poison into the air that gets, not only inside your house but, into your neighbors house. If your neighbor is me, you may hear me sneezing as I smell this nasty chemical odor.

In the past I used to curse at these lawns when I sneezed, rather than thinking or expecting a ‘bless you’ I’d utter a curse. I’d blame the lawn, the property owner or ignorance. Today as the summer nears and the chemicals are again unleashed, I sneezed, I did not curse this time; I said “bless you” to the lawn.

Change The Way You See, Not The Way You Look

changethewayyouseeAs I was scanning my eyes over the buffet of bumper stickers plastered  to the passenger side of a car, this one jumped out at me.  I had never seen that before!  Never heard that before, never thought of that before-  “What does that mean to me?” I wondered, and toyed with the idea in my head.   Immediately my mind showed me an image of a person, being bombarded with information and opinions, mainly mass media: magazines, television, newspapers, radio, advertisements, etc.  Then i thought of a parent, pointing their finger at their child, telling them they are not enough of this, they are too much of that, etc.  Then we can bring in religion.  And societal ‘norms’.  And culture.  And the list goes on and on…

I thought of how quickly we tend to compare ourselves to each other, to the status quo, to what everything “out there” is telling us.  We are constantly being told how to be.  We are being told how to look FOR the world and how we should SEE the world.  So we don’t always see the truth about ourselves.  Most people have maybe never even pondered , let alone remembered that WE ARE FINE THE WAY WE ARE.

You may not like your body, you may not like the way you appear to others, you may look in the mirror and resist what you see, whether it’s your face, your skin, your hips, your hair, but

YOU ARE FINE THE WAY YOU ARE.  Take a deep breath.  Take a load off!  Can you feel any relief from this possibility??

It’s easy for us to get overloaded and mislead by everything around us.  But the truth of you is inside you- always was, always will be, You cannot lose it.  You’ve just forgotten it’s there.  I am a bodywork practitioner, and that’s why I LOVE doing massages for people- it chills us out, quiets us down, in body and mind, allowing our truth, each individual’s deep well of wisdom and uniqueness, to easily float closer to the surface, eventually permeating out into what appears to be beyond the boundary of our bodies- into what we call ‘reality’

When we stop fussing, mussing, worrying over and trying so damn hard to look good, be ‘appropriate’, make a positive impression and be accepted by people, and we instead put our intention and focus on feeling peaceful, grounded, centered in our True Self’s awareness… we just naturally shine!  And we become magnetic- to other people and to what we want.  That’s hot.  It’s attractive!  And innate within us- patiently waiting, right now, to flood every cell of you and influence all the ways you go about and interact with the world: through your thoughts, words and deeds.

Take a deep breath.  Instead of trying to fix or change what you’re seeing, just let it be.  This goes for your body, as well as any and every situation in which you could ever find yourself.   When we let it be,  it can then have the space and opportunity to change, right before your very eyes.  If it doesn’t change, then at lease your concept of it will-  Cuz everything starts within, behind the eyes.  What ideas and perceptions you hold inside, determines what your eyes will see outside.

Botox, make-up, the right clothes, cologne, teeth-whitening kits, most personal care products- don’t even care of us at all-they are toxic and poisonous.   What most people put on and in their bodies is an underlying  futile attempt to help us feel whole.

Wholeness starts within.  Seek within.  Change the way you see things, and worry less and less about how you look on the outside.  Go to the core of you, the truth of you, which nothing can alter, and will not be masked for much longer. Things are really shifting right now on our planet, are they not?!   We are being called now ,to change the way we see each other, our relationship to the planet, and our connection to what many refer to as God.  Through this fresh way of seeing, we are making manifest heaven on earth.  Heaven floats within you!

May you blissfully float in and exist from the Heaven within you.

Baking Soda, What a Precious Salt

I just wanted to write a quick post and say “Baking Soda, What a Precious Salt!”  Baking soda can be used for so many things, from cooking to deodorizing,  it makes a good tooth paste, has anti fungal effects and can be used to wash hair and quickly eliminate dandruff. What a useful precious salt!

Sodium bicarbonate or sodium hydrogen carbonate is the chemical compound with the formula NaHCO3. Sodium bicarbonate is a white solid that is crystalline but often appears as a fine powder. It has a slight alkaline taste resembling that of washing soda (sodium carbonate). It is a component of the mineral natron and is found dissolved in many mineral springs. The natural mineral form is known as nahcolite. It is also produced artificially.

Since it has long been known and is widely used, the salt has many related names such as baking soda, bread soda, cooking soda, bicarbonate of soda. Colloquially, its name is shortened to sodium bicarb, bicarb soda, or simply bicarb. The word saleratus, from Latin sal æratus meaning “aerated salt“, was widely used in the 19th century for both sodium bicarbonate and potassium bicarbonate. The acidic compounds that induce this reaction include phosphates, cream of tartar, lemon juice, yogurt, buttermilk, cocoa, vinegar, etc. Sodium bicarbonate can be substituted for baking powder provided sufficient acid reagent is also added to the recipe.[3] Many forms of baking powder contain sodium bicarbonate combined with one or more acidic phosphates (especially good) or cream of tartar. Can also be used for softening peas (⅛ tsp. per pint of water and bring to boil for one hour)

Thermal decomposition causes sodium bicarbonate alone to act as a raising agent by releasing carbon dioxide at baking temperatures. The mixture for cakes using this method can be allowed to stand before baking without any premature release of carbon dioxide.

Neutralization of acids and bases

Many laboratories keep a bottle of sodium bicarbonate powder within easy reach, because sodium bicarbonate is amphoteric, reacting with acids and bases. Furthermore, as it is relatively innocuous in most situations, there is no harm in using excess sodium bicarbonate. Lastly, sodium bicarbonate powder may be used to smother a small fire. [4]

Castor Oil, A Forgotten Medicine?

I remember hearing my grandmother talk about how castor oil was used in the old days, especially when children got sick, had stomach aches or pretty much any ailment.  I know my aunts and mother hated the taste of this Oil. They would reluctantly drink some, braving the discussing taste. But, the logic was, and remains, that the taste meant this was good for you. They all believe, while the taste was horrible, that Castor oil did have a positive healing outcome.

I never had the pleasure of trying Castor oil. But I was curious, I found some at a local store and I was considering trying some, but the warning on the bottle that mentioned ‘external use only’ deterred me from ingesting it.

Besides the stories I heard from my grandmother, pretty much I did not know anyone else that used this oil as a traditional remedy. I understand how disgusting the taste could be, but I can’t help but wonder if this is oil is does in fact work, and if its effectiveness and usefulness in healing has been forgotten.

Middle easterners used it in the old days to deal with ailments, it is apparently effective on skin and acne and modern day medicines do contain elements extracted from Castor oil.

Have you or anyone you know used Castorl oil for medicinal purposes?

Medicinal use of castor oil

The United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has categorized castor oil as “generally recognized as safe and effective” (GRASE) for over-the-counter use as a laxative, with its major site of action the small intestine.[17] However, although it may be used for constipation, it is not a preferred treatment.[18] Undecylenic acid, a castor oil derivative, is also FDA-approved for over-the-counter use on skin disorders or skin problems.[19]

Cure Tooth Decay – Heal and Prevent Cavities with Nutrition

On 09/09/09 I wrote an article titled Diet and Fish Oil to Prevent Tooth Decay? where I referenced a discussion in the community forum titled ‘Fish Oil to Prevent Tooth Decay?‘.

I’ve just researched the book Cure Tooth Decay: Heal and Prevent Cavities with Nutrition (First Edition). I was impressed by the comments that I ordered a copy of this book from Amazon a few hours ago. The user reviews were very encouraging that I decided  the book was worth reading and perhaps trying out some of its tips. I am of the belief that every idea is worth examining, and that usually, the most effective and correct solutions are the simplest ones, this applies to math, physics, engineering as well as it applies to the human body and health, common sense, isn’t it?

I’ve had my share of dental issues as a kid, I remember having many teeth extracted, as an adult these dental issues kept haunting me. It didn’t make sense because I followed the rules, I brushed and ate well and used mouth wash. I look forward to reading this book.

Here’s some info about the book, based on the Amazon comments I read. The book follows on a trail-blazing dentist, Weston Price. The book outlines mistakes of the western society when it comes to food, it discusses how primitive cultures in the 1930′s (now largely decimated by modernization) had remained immune to tooth decay.

Besides research done by Dr. Weston Price, Nagel draws on personal experience and his child’s. The book has a substantial section devoted solely to children’s diets and the connection to their healthy teeth.

It makes sense that health at large effects the health of teeth, if you are in poor health your teeth will undoubtedly suffer. The book discusses how dental health may actually be an indicator of overall wellness.

This sounds like simple common sense to me.

Diet and Fish Oil to Prevent Tooth Decay?

ToothA couple days ago a new discussion was started in the community forum titled ‘Fish Oil to Prevent Tooth Decay?‘.

The topic of holistic dentistry, root canals and the health of teeth was talked about on Seeking Wholeness in the past, a couple articles come to mind, the Holistic Dentistry article and the Dentistry without Mercury article.

This recent discussion in the community forum is an exciting one because it discusses an area that is often overlooked, namely what impact does nutrition (or life style in general) have on the health of your teeth.

If brushing, flossing, massive fluoridation campaigns, and dental surgery were effective in preventing tooth decay, it would not get worse over time. It would stay the same, or get better. This is what I refer to as unscientifically sound practices.
