TCM TIME – Keep that Liver Happy!

5phasesTraditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) sees the human body quite differently from Western Medicine. Instead of viewing ourselves as a collection of systems that work together, the Chinese view our being as a reflection of nature and it’s rhythmic cycles- each major body organ is related to one of the 5 major elements: wood, fire, earth, metal, and water. Each element is also associated with a season, and can be altered and affected by a variety of other correlations, including: color, flavor (food & drink), an emotional state, and one of the five sensory organs. For example, if you have an issue going on with your eye or sight, it is usually an imbalance that has incurred in the Liver qi.

Spring corresponds to the “Wood” element, and is related to the liver and gallbladder organs. According to the philosophy of Chinese medicine, the liver is responsible for the smooth flowing of Qi (energy) throughout the body. When the liver functions smoothly, physical and emotional activity throughout the body also runs smoothly. It is also said to contribute to our body’s resistance to external pathogenic influences, and is also believed to weigh our ability to plan our lives. The gallbladder provides the Qi to the sinews, effects the quality and length of sleep, and gives us drive and the passion to excel; to take the action necessary for our intentions to come to fruition. Dealing with adversity also comes under the role of the Gallbladder.

You can do things on your own to keep that liver happy, Qi flowing smoothly, and enjoy being in balance with this time of year, by observing:

Color: Green – Wear this color, eat young plants- fresh, leafy greens, sprouts, etc. Go outside and sit in a nice patch of grass, enjoy the return of the leaves on the trees.

Flavor: Sour – Try naturally sour foods like yogurt, raw sauerkraut, or fresh lemon juice in water. Use vinegar and olive oil for your salad dressing. Garnish your sandwich with a slice of dill pickle.

Emotion: Anger – find and use healthy ways of communicating and releasing pent up emotion. give yourself permission to be angry, but do not dwell in it- learn to let things go.

Sense organ: the Eyes – Rest your eyes occasionally by covering them with the palms of your hands. Do this a few times a day, for 5 minutes if you work a lot on the computer. Also munch on some Goji berries everyday- the Wolfberry is proven to have a huge effect on the way the eye functions. (ancient Chinese secret!)

These suggestions may sound simple, but little things will go a long way in helping you feel grounded and healthy. Overall, the best thing you can do during this change of season is get outside and move- stretch the body; the sinews, muscles, tendons, the areas most effected by this time of year want some fresh air and energy to come in, rejuvenating the liver, keeping your overall energy vibrant and working for you. Tai chi, qi gong, yoga, etc. are great activities to do at least a little bit daily. Enjoy moving that body! Love your body. I know this is not always an easy thing, but the more we love and accept ourselves just the way we are, the more we automatically heal, get better, and feel in balance with all of life.

I’m Going to Fast

June 3rd, 2010 2 comments

This article was written on June 1st.

I am currently studying QiGong, which is the chinese are of manipulating life energy and using it for healing. Many so called miraculous stories surround the use of life force, prana, Qi, Chee from healing the body and mind to fasting for many days.

I don’t have much experience with complete fasting (i.e. not drinking or eating anything) for many hours or days. I have tried partial fasts (i.e. eating one item and drinking water only) on a few occasions but these partial fasts never lasted more than 8 hours.

Over the last couple months, on multiple occasions, I’ve come across the mention of multi-day fasting practiced by yogis, QiGong masters and Native Americans during Sun-dancing.

On my most recent QiGong class, a couple days ago, the teacher talked about fasting and how one could breath through the skin or feed on light. He did not go into details since this teaching is for a more advanced class than the one I am attending. I was quite surprised that he mentioned this, since the idea of fasting has been on my mind. I’ve had a gut feeling/urge or feeling that I should fast for quite some time now.

This was the last mention of fasting I needed to hear, I am now intrigued enough that I am planning on fasting. I will start slow and easy and see where this will take me.

A couple weeks ago I came across a few videos on Youtube of an Indian man who claimed to have not eaten or drank anything for decades. His name is Prahlad Jani Mataji.

I will gather more info on this man and write another article soon. I will also update you on my fasting experiments.

Are QiGong Master Jo’s (Zhou) Qi Powers For Real?

May 20th, 2010 No comments

Today’s article is actually (a re-post of) a comment that I wrote in response to an article with a Riply’s video from youtube titled “Qigong Master Jo (Zhou) Boils Water With Qi/Chi From His Hands” showing Master Zhou bringing water to a boiling temperature using Qi energy. Find the article and video here.

The following is what I am taking away from reading the string of comments posted by Advisor Matt:

We have two opinions, one is that Master Zhou is authentic the other is that he is using a trick to generate heat (some called hims a fraud).

Against:

The following was offered as an explanation to how the heat-generating trick worked:

“.. Aluminum foil from a cigarette pack, wets is with some Hg2Cl2?
“.. towel had been soaked in the bichloride of mercury solution, then dried; once it has been rehydrated, and the aluminum foil added, the reaction takes place”

and from Eric Zammitt (comment 20) we read

“.. water that he used on the foil and touched it to my tongue. It burned!” The water had a chemical taste. He suggests that a chemical compound was used when he said “Sodium Hydroxide, NaOH, commonly known as Lye, reacts with aluminum and generates great heat”

For:

Many wrote positive comments. From reading the comments, it seems people have met him in person and did not see any evidence of a trick.

Commenter Cyre (comment 24) said “i dipped my fingers in the cup of fluid, smelled it, and even tasted it. As far as my perception stood. It was regular water,” Yet, Mr. Zammitt said these people must have missed the evidence.

Comment 52 says “Master Zhou is for real. The person who claims that he found caustic liquid is lying… I knew Master Zhou for several years and not only received treatments from him but also studied with him. He is an amazing healer and a generous person who teaches everything he knows.”

Comment 53 is from another student that studied with master Zhou and it testifies that Master Zhou is for real. I suggest you read it.

The video does mention that Ripleys provided all materials and they were later tested for chemicals.

It is worth mentioning that none of the comments I saw was against the effectiveness of QiGong with the exception to the mention of “Subliminal Distraction exposure” and how SD “caused mental breaks” leading practitioners especially in group practice to believe in the presence of “superhuman strength”, the comment goes on to mention this can be seen in QiGong or Kundalini Yoga. At this time, I don’t know much about “Subliminal Distraction”, I simply am rephrasing what the comment said.

Both “for” and “against” comments to the authenticity of Master Zhou or the use of chemicals cannot be proven nor discounted by myself. I only have these written words to go by.

I suppose, I’d have to visit with Master Zhou myself and bring my own materials and taste the water. Even better, I can ask him to generate heat without the aluminum foil, water or the towels.

Qigong Master Jo (Zhou) Boils Water With Qi/Chi From His Hands

April 28th, 2010 6 comments

This is not an urban myth or an X-files episode. Qigong Master Jo (Zhou) lives today and he continues to boil water with hands, even an infrared camera captured the heat produced from his hands. Abilities like these are found within the practice of QiGong. They are not paranormal, only normal. To the practitioner, these abilities are very normal (not paranormal) and they follow the Chinese science of harnessing the power of Qi from themselves or the universe.

Before coming to the United States, Master Zhou traveled throughout mainland China teaching Qi Gong, treating patients, and demonstrating his unusual skills in the martial arts. His reputation finally spread to all parts of the country. Highly respected and honored in China, Master Zhou has been called a Treasure of the Nation.

Master Zhou practices in LA, California at ‘Full Spectrum Coaching’. Here’s a link to their website: http://holosla.com

Caption about Master Zhou from the website above (http://holosla.com/team/master-zhou-ting-jue/):

Qi Gong master, Zhou Ting-Jue was born in 1934 in China. At the age of seven, he began learning martial arts and traditional Chinese medical theory under the guidance of his uncle, a Taoist priest. He often secluded himself at Wu Dang Mountain, in the temple of his uncle’s sect, for advanced studies. There, he cultivated the discipline of Qi Gong and developed a growing understanding of the true meaning and potentials of Qi and its relationship to life and the universe. His mentors included many famous Chinese Qi Gong masters, who passed on to him their personal knowledge about the mysterious power of Qi Gong.

After studying the knowledge that was presented by each of his master-teachers, Master Zhou created his own school of Qi Gong. His unique skills and techniques have contributed to and broadened the scope of traditional Qi Gong. These abilities form the basis of the care he provides and the amazing effect it has in promoting health and curing disease.

Before coming to the United States, Master Zhou traveled throughout mainland China teaching Qi Gong, treating patients, and demonstrating his unusual skills in the martial arts. His reputation finally spread to all parts of the country. Highly respected and honored in China, Master Zhou has been called a “Treasure of the Nation.”

In 1991, Master Zhou was invited to the “International Southern California Hai Hua Cup Martial Arts Tournament” as a competitor, where, at 60 years of age, he won the championship two consecutive years. Subsequently, the tournament committee, recognizing his expertise, appointed him as a consultant and judge.

Dude Gathering the Chi – Super-Natural or Simply Natural?

April 27th, 2010 No comments

I am not saying this is real. I wasn’t there to witness this. Assuming this footage is authentic and real with no tricks, you may think science cant prove this phenomena, or that this simply doesn’t fit and shouldn’t work according to our current knowledge of physics.

Please remember that science’s duty is to observe nature then try to explain it and create what we call laws of nature that can be used to increase knowledge of other natural systems or to produce useful technology. Now, when nature does not fit into the natural ‘laws’, what should be done? Certainly not ignoring nature as nature is the teacher, we try to interpret it.

Our natural laws are in reality human laws, not natural laws. Our human-made laws are what we think nature’s laws are. However, when nature does not follow, then we must re-examine our laws (i.e. interpretation of nature). Bending nature to fit into our laws is simply ignorant.

If one is to have a pure pursuit of true natural laws one should observe nature and get rid of one’s egos. You must approach nature with an open mind.

Your thoughts are filtered by your beliefs. Change your definitions that create your beliefs and anything is possible.
What is para-normal to some is “normal” to others.

Video: Gathering the Chi
The youtube video below shows smoke rises from this Chinese medical practitioner’s fingers as he gathers the energy or “qi” to help cure a patient. Later he creates heat over dry newspapers which smolder as he concentrates his energy to show how refined chi can be powerful.

What Is Qigong?

April 2nd, 2010 No comments

ez-mindbody-healing-qigongQigong is an ancient healing practice from China, which brings your mind, body, and heart energy together to achieve balance through active meditative movements and sitting meditations.

The Chinese call the energy in a person’s body “qi.” Qi works in this way: when qi flows smoothly in the body, life is good and you are physically and mentally healthy. When the flow of qi is interrupted, energy blockages form and can lead to physical or mental health problems. When qi totally stops, that is the end of life.

“Gong” means the “the flow of” or “the practice of.” Qigong, then, means the flow or practice of energy.

Qigong practice helps the qi (energy) in the body flow freely so the body stays in balance and healthy, which helps prevent energy blockages. It can also help heal energy blockages when the body is sick. Many people in China practice qigong, and many doctors teach their patients different qigong exercises and postures to help them heal.

QiGong relies on the art of deep breathing. Deep breathing is relaxing, it also increases the energy level in the body and more fully oxygenate your blood and has countless health benefits.

Qi, is pronounced “chee” and is written in many different ways: Chi, Qi, Ki, Ji, Chy, Kee. These are all the same.

Qigong, Electricity & The Human Body

March 29th, 2010 No comments

energy-handsI got this from a disucssion forum a while back, I saved the text without the name of the author or a link back to that forum’s web page. If you know where this came from let me know .. for now here’s the text attempting to explain what the Qi/Chee/Life force is (basically it argues that Qi is bio-electricity).

Electricity, defined by Merriam-Webster, is as follows: a fundamental form of energy observable in positive and negative forms that occurs naturally (as in lightning) or is produced (as in a generator) and that is expensed in terms of the movement and interaction of electrons.

Generally speaking, when thinking of electricity, we think of it as something external to our human bodies: the naturally occurring lightning and human created technology being two said instances. There is, however, a form of electricity that is prevalent in every living creature: bioelectricity.

Bioelectricity is the electric phenomena related to living organisms. It is bioelectricity that enables a shark to map the ocean floor. It is bio-electromagnetic phenomena that enable migratory birds to travel great distances at the same time each year with the accuracy we have only been able to reproduce with maps and GPS. It is bioelectricity that enables the electric eel to generate large fields of current outside their bodies.

The difference of electricity vs. bioelectricity is in degree, not in kind. Whereas a lightning bolt can exceed temperatures of 54,000 degrees Fahrenheit (30,000 degrees Celsius), that same current runs through the human body, just on a smaller scale.

In fact, the human body runs largely off of [bio] electricity and has organs dedicated to sensing electromagnetic impulses, both inside and outside the human body. The pineal and pituitary glands are both directly tied to the human body’s ability to sense and actively experience electromagnetic phenomenon.

The pineal gland is the evolutionary descendant of our ancestors’ ability to perceive light. It also regulates the circadian rhythms of the body, biological rhythms that are attuned to the day-night cycle, (Celtoslavica, Electricity and Human Consciousness); these ‘rhythms’ can be and have been disrupted by electromagnetic fields, both naturally occurring as well as man-made. The pituitary gland controls and influences all other hormonal organs which report back to the pituitary gland(Celtoslavica, Electricity and Human Consciousness); in fact, the pituitary gland is largely responsible for the overall functioning and efficiency of the human nervous system.

The nervous system in human beings is based entirely off of the ability to transmit electric pulses. Every cell within the human body pumps ions (e.g. that which makes up the quantum field), in and out of the cell for energy purposes; this is called the Sodium-Potassium pump, and can be found in all animal life. Said energy, in the biological animal, is called “adenosine triphosphate” (ATP); biologists and biochemist alike have noted that ATP can be neutral, or carry a charge (plus or minus), and is, infact, a charged particle which the cells use for energy. ATP is the final product of the digestive cycle and further exemplifies the human being’s connection (and ability) to experience and manipulate the electromagnetic fields that permeate the Universe.

“Bio-magnetism: An Awesome Force in Our Lives,” an article published by Reader’s Digest (January 1983), highlights some of the [still] cutting edge concepts the scientific community is, and has been, practicing:

“When a patient with a broken leg that is not healing properly comes to Dr. Basset (Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center in New York City, NY), he is likely to go home with two heavy pads connected by wires to a box that can plug into an electrical wall socket. The patient puts one pad on each side of his broken bone and turns on the device. Coils of wire in the pad induce a pulsing electromagnetic field into his flesh and bone — a field of energy that somehow commands the bone to heal itself.”

As postulated by the scientists interviewed in the article, it makes sense that human beings have the innate ability to sense electromagnetic phenomena:
“We live on a sun-lit planet, and most living things have acquired some means to use the light. We live in a world filled with sounds, and most living things have developed a means to sense vibrations. Since our planet is also a giant magnet, it should not surprise us to discover that we and many other living things have a sensitivity to Earth’s magnetic-force field.”

As we look from large-scale physics, e.g., the lightning bolt and the sodium-potassium pump, to smaller scale electromagnetic phenomenon, we find ourselves in the realm of quantum mechanics. Light is an electromagnetic phenomenon. Light is both a wave and a particle. In terms of quantum mechanics, electricity and light are the same. The oscillations of the impulses create the divergent effects. Microwaves, radio waves, even the non-lethal weapons of the US Army (such as the Active Denial System jnlwp[dot]com/ads.asp) are based out of electromagnetic fields.

Humans Create “Life”, Almost

September 6th, 2009 No comments

bacteria2I always wondered if within my life time we, humans, would be able to make ‘living’ things. By living I mean ‘life’ in the traditional sense. I am not referring to artificial intelligence (AI), robots, learning computers, virtual living beings, viruses, etc. Interestingly, based on a news article titled ‘Artificial life is only months away‘ it seems we are getting closer.

Is this scary or exciting? Maybe it’s both, it is certainly sci-fi material. We may use this technology to benefit the medical field, or we could create, or engineer, bacteria that is efficient at producing natural gas or other usable fuels. We also, better be careful not to create super killer, out of control, multiplying, toxic-creating species.

This ‘man-made’ life is not entirely made out of scratch. The method being used works by transplanting DNA into bacteria cells, thus rebooting the bacteria cells with this new DNA and transforming the bacteria into a totally new species.

The DNA, or synthetic genome, hold the entire genetic code for the new species, and this synthetic genome is made entirely from scratch by scientists.

Real Life-Creation?

I can’t help but wonder, should we manage to transform bacteria into a different ‘new’ bacteria, even into an entirely new species of bacteria, are we really creating life or merely genetically reprogramming existing life. Does a living organism live by its DNA code alone, or are there other aspects at play?

While we can engineer the DNA out of scratch, it’s pretty much useless until we successfully place it into an already-living bacteria. We are actually reprogramming or rebooting the bacteria cell, that is already alive.

The question left unanswered is, are we able to make the bacteria cell itself out of scratch?  So far the answer is no.

I can’t help but wonder, what makes a bacteria cell alive?

Dr Venter, who has been chasing his goal for a decade, is already working on projects to use synthetic biology to create bacteria that transform coal into cleaner natural gas, and algae that soak up carbon dioxide and turn it into hydrocarbon fuels. Other potential applications include new ways of manufacturing medicines and vaccines.

Artificial life will be created within four months, a controversial scientist has predicted. Craig Venter, who led a private project to sequence the human genome, told The Times that his team had cleared a critical hurdle to creating man-made organisms in a laboratory.

“Assuming we don’t make any errors, I think it should work and we should have the first synthetic species by the end of the year,” he said.

Happy Earth Day, Today And Every Day

Happy Earth Day, Today And Every Day

gaiaI’m writing today to wish Earth a happy Earth day.
I’m writing to wish you a happy Earth day.
May every day be Earth Day.

If you follow this blog, you know that I have little time to write these days. But I had to write to wish you all a belated happy Earth Day :) Earth day was on April 22nd 2009.

I am keeping this article short and simple. I would like to briefly mention a couple words that come to mind on an occasion like this.

Are you familiar with the word Gaia? I’d guess 50% of the people reading this have heard the word Gaia before. If you know this word, congrats for your knowledge of Greek Mythology.

How about this word: Pantheism ?

If you didn’t recognize these words, no worries. I will briefly discuss what these terms mean here, in the future I will dedicate an article to each term.

Gaia

Also spelled Gaea or Ge, is a word from Greek mythology. Gaia is the goddess of the earth and mother of Cronus and the Titans in ancient mythology. In other words Gaia is the mother of all things, including the Titans, as well as Zeus and all other gods.

The term Gaia is also found in philosophy. You guessed it, Gaia philosophy or the Gaia theory was named after Gaia the Greek Goddess. There are some mystical, scientific and religious predecessors to the Gaia philosophy. Many religious mythologies had a view of Earth as being a whole that is greater than the sum of its parts (e.g. some Native American religions and various forms of shamanism).

Gaia Theory is a broadly inclusive term for related concepts that living organisms on a planet will affect the nature of their environment in order to make the environment more suitable for life.

Gaia is also the name of a hypothesis. The Gaia hypothesis is an ecological hypothesis that deals with the concept of homeostasis, and claims the resident life forms of a host planet coupled with their environment have acted and act as a single, self-regulating system. This system includes the near-surface rocks, the soil, and the atmosphere. This hypothesis proposes that the biosphere and the physical components of the Earth (atmosphere, cryosphere, hydrosphere and lithosphere) are closely integrated to form a complex interacting system that maintains the climatic and biogeochemical conditions on Earth in a preferred homeostasis.

On to the next term,

Pantheism

Pantheism is made of off two words, ‘pan’ is Greek for ‘all’ and ‘theos’ means ‘God’. It literally means “God is All” and “All is God”.

Pantheism refers to the belief that the universe is divine and should be revered. Pantheism identifies the universe with God but denies any personality or transcendence of such a God

A pantheist is someone who believes that everything is God and God is all. Since God is everything and everything is God, everything is sacred and interconnected. In other words, God and the universe are the same.

Conclusion On The Tingling, GooseBumps, Goose Bumpy, Static Electric Sensation

February 14th, 2009 20 comments

Have you ever wondered what that interesting tingling, goosebumps, goose bumpy, static electric, flowing energy, electrical sensation you felt within you or on your skin was?

You may have noticed this sensation while meditating, praying, doing guided imagery, relaxing, listening to music, when enjoying nature or when you stand in the wind or the sun.

I asked myself what this sensation was, could it be the life force, the Chi, or a healing energy? Luckily, I posted a blog article with exactly this question entitled “Tingling Goosebumps Equals Life Energy” (click here to read it)Posted in September 22, 2008

That blog article got a stronger response than I had anticipated, responses came from a diverse set of people mostly united by experiencing this sensation. Many shared their stories in comments others emailed me directly. I also went off and started asking people I knew especially ones that were spiritual.

I have compiled all the answers I received and below you will see a list of what most people gave as an explanation. They overlap:

  1. Sensing an entity / presence in the vicinity / spirits
  2. The ability to sense Life Force in you
  3. The ability to sense / channel Life Force energies around you
  4. Flushing / in ancient times, they called this an annointment (Saint Teresa of Avila wrote about it in her memoirs) / releasing debris
  5. Cleansing of your chakras
  6. Indicating the beginnings of a Kundalini awakening

What it is not:

  1. It is nothing to be afraid of.
  2. I asked my doctor, he said its not neuroplogical (unless it is uncontrollable, continuous and very obvious)
  3. Not Anoxia

Conclusion:
Keep meditating. Keep experiencing this sensation. If the effects are positive, then continue to seek them.

Personal Experience:

Since the last article on this topic, I have noticed considerable warmth that accompanies this sensation when I mediated, in the stomach and chest. The sensation starts in the head, but sometimes it seems to start in the upper back, sometimes in the lower back. Every time, it spreads all over down to my toes and to the neck and head.

Leave a comment below or join the discussion here where people are also sharing their experience with this sensation: http://www.wholenessforums.com/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=21

Remote Viewing (non local consciousness) is Something We All Have

January 31st, 2009 No comments

I listened to a radio interview recently and found some of the aspects that the guest speaker discussed agreeable. I noted quotes below from the interview that I liked and wanted to share with you:

On Remote Viewing, in a radio interview with Coast to Coast with Art Bell, Stephan A. Schwartz said:

[Remote viewing is a] learnable skill, like a kind of modern mental martial art or mental yoga; its an ancient one [found] in the shamanic traditions all over the world.

All over the world, there are traditions of training people to be able to use this use this aspect of consciousness to open themselves to it, its like learning to play tennis basically, there is nothing supernatural or weird about it, it its not anomalous.

All these words [that] people use, anomalous, wired, I don’t even like the word psychic, its just non local consciousness its something we all have by reason of being living organisms.

It’s your birth right as a human being

This ability is always present because it a function of being a living organism

In Stephan’s opinion, phenomena like remote viewing, intuition, telepathy ad others are all basically non local consciousness or non local awareness.

80% of adult Americans believe in God

December 22nd, 2008 No comments

I just thought this info was interesting. I will post it without comment.

ROCHESTER, N.Y., Dec 10, 2008 (BUSINESS WIRE) — That very large majorities of the American public believe in God, miracles, the survival of the soul after death, the resurrection of Jesus Christ, and the Virgin birth will come as no great surprise. What may be more surprising is that substantial minorities believe in ghosts, UFOs, witches, astrology, and the belief that they themselves were once other people. Overall, more people believe in the devil, hell and angels than believe in Darwin’s theory of evolution.
These are some of the results of The Harris Poll(R), a new nationwide survey of 2,126 U.S. adults surveyed online between November 10 and 17, 2008 by Harris Interactive(R).

Some of the interesting findings in this new Harris Poll include:

– 80% of adult Americans believe in God – unchanged since the last time we asked the question in 2005. Large majorities of the public believe in miracles (75%), heaven (73%), angels (71%), that Jesus is God or the Son of God (71%), the resurrection of Jesus (70%), the survival of the soul after death (68%), hell (62%), the Virgin birth (Jesus born of Mary (61%) and the devil (59%).

– Slightly more people – but both are minorities – believe in Darwin’s theory of evolution (47%) than in creationism (40%).

– Sizeable minorities believe in ghosts (44%), UFOs (36%), witches (31%), astrology (31%), and reincarnation (24%).
Differences between Catholics and Protestants
There are no significant differences between the large percentages of Catholics and Protestants who believe in God, miracles, heaven and hell, that Jesus is the Son of God, angels, the resurrection of Jesus, the survival of the soul after death, the Virgin birth and the devil.
However, Catholics are more likely than Protestants to believe in Darwin’s theory of evolution (by 52% to 32%), ghosts (by 57% to 41%), UFOs (by 43% to 31%), and astrology (by 40% to 28%). Protestants are slightly more likely than Catholics to believe in creationism (by 54% to 46%).

Which Religious Texts Are the “Word of God”
Slender majorities of all adults believe that all or most of the Old Testament (55%) and the New Testament (54%) are the “Word of God.” However, only about a third of all adults (37% and 36%) believe that all of these texts are the word of God.
Interestingly, only 26% of all adults believe that the Torah is the word of God, even though it is the same as the first five books of the Old Testament. Presumably many people do not know this.

Religiosity and Religious Practice
Less than a quarter of Americans describe themselves are “very religious.” However, a large majority (68%) describe themselves as either very (23%) or somewhat (45%) religious.
A quarter (27%) of adult Americans claim that they attend church once a week or more often, compared with 36% who say they attend less than once a year or never (18% each).

A Note on the Methodology Used and How It Affects the Results
Other research has shown that when replying to a question administered impersonally by a computer, people are less likely to say they believe in God, or attend Church services when they really don’t. It is generally believed that surveys conducted by live interviewers tend to exaggerate the numbers of people who report the socially desirable, or less embarrassing, behavior, and that the replies given to an online survey such as this, are more honest and therefore more accurate.

Methodology
This Harris Poll(R) was conducted online within the United States between November 10 and 17, 2008 among 2,126 adults (aged 18 and over). Figures for age, sex, race/ethnicity, education, region and household income were weighted where necessary to bring them into line with their actual proportions in the population. Propensity score weighting was also used to adjust for respondents’ propensity to be online.

Full data tables and methodology are available at www.harrisinteractive.com
These statements conform to the principles of disclosure of the National Council on Public Polls.

Do You Want to Dematerialize Into Free Energy?

November 9th, 2008 No comments

Free from the physical

Have you ever found yourself wishing you could dematerialize and turn into an aware free-moving energy?

You may think of it as freeing your soul or spirit to travel outside your body, like a permanent state of astral projection, as in being free of your earthly physical body. This phenomena may also be known as ascension, or perhaps this is what dying is? I am not asking if you ever wished you were dead here, no.

My question is, have you ever found yourself wishing you could be free of your body, of gravity, hunger and thirst, physical pain, national borders, and to be a mobile, space traveler?
