Hair Research Update – June 15th
Thanks for your patronage. Article starts below:
I wrote recently about my recent interest in researching hair and scalp health, how to retain hair, thicken it and even grow new hairs.
The many websites, articles, discussion forums I visited offered a lot of interesting information. I was very optimistic with my findings, based on the many testimonials I found online.
Now, only a few (busy) days since my last article, with over 20 hours of reading and typing, I have now gone through all the research material I had gathered and summarized it all. Not only that, I now have about another 300 pages of newly-gathered information to go through.
Good news, bad news
I remain optimistic that there are many natural remedies, in conjunction with nutrition and other healthy habits I know that one can make their hair and scalp healthier, this I know for a fact.
The good news is, I believe the material I gathered offered proof and solutions that worked for women that do improve their hair, even grow more of it. For men, with the so called male pattern baldness (mpb), I can’t be that certain.
Since I have mpb and the hormone DHT (self diagnosed, given the other males that share similar genes) I am a prime candidate to try some of the remedies and good habits on myself.
To start with, I took photos of my head yesterday. I’ll be taking a few photos every month to see if I can track any progress, or lack thereof.
So where’s the bad news?
Many people take the words of Doctors to be final and correct. From personal experience I know this is not true. I am not a statistic neither are you.
A lot of the science around hair loss, male pattern baldness, female pattern baldness, hormones effects of hair, in my opinion, offers only theories (not facts). Thus, take everything you hear with a grain of salt, science as of today has theories on hair loss and hair growth, some of these theories are repeated by people as facts, these “facts” are thus not conclusive nor are they final. There is room for interpretation, and there is evidence than does contradict said facts.
Hair health can be affected by many factors. For most men (with mpb) the role of genetics is usually claimed as the culprit. Many consider genetics the ultimate factor in hair loss; others disagree.
Who controls you?
Recently I have come across more and more material that discusses how a person can change their DNA, how the DNA changes due to environmental factors and even mental influences. I have seen cases where “predetermining” factors such as a person’s genetics, upbringing or culture did not have the “expected” outcome.
I’m trying to say that you are not a 100% controlled by a predetermined set of genetic code.
I know that the mind can and does alter the body; to what extend? this I don’t know.
As a hypnotist, I know of the power of intention, expectation and belief on the human body. I also am of the opinion that “nothing is impossible,” so is growing hair possible, despite your genes? yes, it is possible!
Is it necessary to grow hair?
I think it is necessary to be healthy and happy.
Why does one remedy work for a person but not another?
The solutions that are used today, from pharmaceuticals like Minoxidil to natural herbs, essential oils, nutrition, acupuncture, massages etc.. work some times and don’t at other times.
Hair loss is highly individualized, hair health is a reflection of one’s general health; since each person’s mental and physical health is unique to that person, treatments are also unique.
Minoxidil may work for some but not others, the same is likely true with natural, home made, ancient and nutritional remedies. A certain topical treatments with oils, teas, foods may work for a person, but if it doesn’t then it’s time to move on to another treatment.
You have to try out different things until one does produce positive effects.
What do I expect?
I still have the gut feeling that the solution to most hair loss is found in nature. Based on the hundreds of testimonials I’ve read online from mostly women and some men, I know this is true.
Holistic Super Remedy?
I continue to gather more information. My plan is to compare and contrast it, find similarities and differences, and to eventually combine multiple remedies into one super remedy, and to try that on myself!
I started a couple nights ago, I don’t have all the needed ingredients yet, nor have I finished my research (so I am not following a super remedy Yet) but I am enjoying the process, I have never massaged my scalp before, doing that was fun, it put me in touch with a part of my body I barely cared for in the past.
My scalp and head felt great, light and alive as I wrote this article this morning!
What are the side effects of natural hair improvement?
For me, so far, they have been: Learning, trying natural things, feeling healthier, smelling great, wow … Lot’s of fun!
What’s next for me?
- Will study newly gathered material, add on to the summary document.
- Submit a hair mineral analysis test
- Take supplements, use different topical remedies
- Come up with a Holistic Super Remedy that involves the whole mind-body (habits, exercise, nutrition, diet, topical remedies, washing/conditioning, massaging etc) and use it.
- Share research summary and Holistic Super Remedy with the person that got me excited enough to research this hair regrowth topic more vigorously (mentioned in this article), so she could benefit from this information, if she so desires.
- Take photos of hair so I can document progress, if any, on my mpb.
- Share all that knowledge from hundreds of sources and my experiences here!
Stay tuned.
