Got The Sugar Blues? Duffy Has Good News!

May 30th, 2011 No comments

sugar addictionI recently completed reading a book titled Sugar Blues by William Duffy, I picked it up at a closeout sale at a Borders bookstore for half price. I like this one, learned a few things from it and have since recommended it to a few friends. I also have largely gone on a sugar-free experiment. I also recommend you read this book, it’s a classic diet book, yet it sounds as if it was written a couple years ago, there might be a few outdated bits and pieces but again, this is a classic worth reading and has a wealth of insight to offer you. I had reduced my sugar intake for a few years, seeking to be “moderate”, this book is actually helping me far “very easily” resist sugar. I am almost sugar free these days. I appreciate the history in this book, you will learn about the history of sugar, and other things like fermenting, sauerkraut and beer. You will learn how sugar was invented, and you will be reminded that unlike salt (so essential people used it as currency in the past) sugar is a relatively new addition to our diet. This book touched me in a positive way, and I feel it will do the same with you. You just might never look at food and eating the same way again! all good positive things!

Well, what else does the book talk about? Duffy makes it clear how he dislikes how sugar is labeled (or not labeled) on products and how it is inaccurate to lump refined sugar with other healthy carbs under the same label name. See, not all carbs are the same, but a food label doesn’t tell you that, nor does it say how much added sugar is in a product. You might be surprised to learn what I learned about brown and raw sugar products, and what they put sugar in (ketchup, mayo, dressing, etc), you’ll read about sugar and the persians, indians, crusades, and even slavery! The book is easy to read as well, well documented and sourced.

Knowing what I know now, it is difficult to allow myself to eat sugar, and I have this book to thank. This books acts as an anti-sugar vaccine or an anti-sugar booster shot. If you crave sugar simply read this book and you will no longer crave it!

Sugar is not a nutrient, it is not empty calories either, it is actually an anti-nutrient, when you eat it you are eating something that takes away vitamins from your body to rid itself of sugar.. thus Duffy defines it as a poison, and I see why.

I’ve finished the book a weak ago only, I can say no to sugar now easily, I have resisted cravings and know what it feels like to eat sugar now vs. another source of calories, and I am still learning my body’s response and watching to see how my health will improve. I am unable to tolerate sugar in things now, many things smell and taste too sweet! I do not touch or crave the junk you find at gas stations or coffee shops. Instead of sugar I eat fruits, brown rice, potatoes etc.. real healthful calories. It’s a transition, for sure, but a good and natural one. I wish I had read this book 20yrs ago, as a kid I binged on sugar and now can see how it probably had negative effects on my health.

See, the thing is, “when it comes to sugar, the secret is not moderation but avoidance.”

I wont ramble much more..

You can find it at a very affordable price on amazon

This is the book description from Amazon:

It’s a prime ingredient in countless substances from cereal to soup, from cola to coffee. Consumed at the rate of one hundred pounds for every American every year, it’s as addictive as nicotine — and as poisonous. It’s sugar. And “Sugar Blues”, inspired by the crusade of Hollywood legend Gloria Swanson, is the classic, bestselling expose that unmasks our generation’s greatest medical killer and shows how a revitalizing, sugar-free diet can not only change lives, but quite possibly save them.

Don’t Eat Like The Pharaohs

November 1st, 2010 1 comment

Many 2,000 to 3,500 years old mummies show obvious signs of periodontal diseases, abscesses and cavities.

After examining research of more than 3,000 mummies, anatomists and paleopathologists at the University of Zurich concluded that 18 percent of all mummies in case reports showed a nightmare array of dental diseases.

“Evidence of dental disorders is plentiful because usually teeth are among the best preserved parts of a body. As for other diseases, the published studies do not always provide in-depth details. Nevertheless, we came across some interesting findings,” senior author and medical doctor Frank Ruhli, head of the Swiss Mummy Project at the University of Zurich, told Discovery News.

Published in the Journal of Comparative Human Biology (HOMO), the review takes into consideration all studies published since 1977, when computed tomography was first applied to ancient Egyptian mummies.

Comment:

Degenerative and infectious diseases were also very common. The most common cases included: Osteoarthritis, atherosclerosis (a hardening of the arteries), chronic infectious middle ear diseases, tuberculosis, gangrenous stomatitis, gangrene of the cheek and gums, and tumorous lesions were all found.

Just because the ancient Egyptians (and their mummified bodies) had periodontal diseases does not mean that everyone must get periodontal diseases. What this finding tells us is that we do not want the Egyptian life style, what they ate must have contributed to their tooth decay.

In other words, you may consider the ancient Egyptian civilization as a really ancient one, and the fact that even they back then suffered dental diseases shows that it is “normal” for humans to experience such conditions. This logic is flawed, what the mummies show us is that the ancient Egyptians (and their civilization) did something that had a negative effect on their teeth.

One must know that despite the Egyptian mummies having tooth decay issues, that Dr. Weston Price found many “uncivilized” tribes had immaculate teeth, other fossil records show ancient human teeth that are in very good condition; these people did not have brushes, tooth paste or mouth washes. They also did not live in what we term a “civilized” society, rather they had a natural diet and life style.

Both ancient Egyptians and the modern humans suffer from periodontal diseases due to their “civilized” diet and life style and not because it is “normal for everyone” to experience periodontal diseases as some would like to you beleive.

Oral Cleanliness is Not the Best Known Means for the Control of Dental Caries – Weston Price

October 28th, 2010 No comments

Below is another very educational article written by Dr. Weston Price and commented on by Ramiel Nagel. This article is posted here for “preservation” and archival reasons, sometimes you come across information online that you want to make sure others read, but the internet world is ever-changing, something maybe available today and gone tomorrow, thus I sometimes re-post articles like the one below here but take NO CREDIT for any of them.

Here is the article:

Weston Price – That a Clean Tooth Does Not Decay and that Mouth Cleanliness Affords the Best Known Protection Against Dental Caries.

Dental Cosmos Page 871 1934: by Weston A Price, DDS:

Oral cleanliness is not the best known means for the control of dental caries because:

(I) Since primitive man has had high immunity to dental caries he becomes our control in the great experiment of civilizations.

It is essential there fore, that we study the controlling factors of his environment, of which he is the product, and use these as our yardstick for studying modern civilization.

For this I have studied remnants of several primitive racial stocks where their physical isolation had sheltered them from the influences of our modern civilization, and by studying them and their foods and their methods of living, certain underlying factors are found to be common to all these primitive groups, even though they were living in different countries and on very different foods. This permits us to critically analyze modern civilizations at their points of contact with the primitives and, by studying them and their problems with the standards of immune primitives, not the factors which are contributing to dental caries.

By studying the children in four isolated valley in Switzerland; Loetschental, Visperterminen, Grachen, and Ayer in the Swiss Alps, I found the incidence of dental caries to be only 4.6 percent of the teeth studied. Here oral prophylaxis and modern equipment for practicing it were largely unknown. At St. Moritz, however, at approximately the same altitude, which is highly modernized community with excellent training in oral prophylaxis, the incidence of caries was 29.8 per cent of teeth studied.

At Vissoie and Zinal, which were partially modernized, 22 percent of the teeth examined had been attacked by dental caries. At Herisau, in the plains country of Switzerland, also a highly modernized community with splendid instruction and equipment for mouth cleanliness, the incidence of cares was 24.7 per cent of the teeth examined.

Similar studies were made in the Outer Hebrides off the west coast of Scotland and revealed that in the isolated districts of the Isles of Lewis and Harris, only 1.2 percent of the teeth examined has been attacked by dental caries. Oral prophylaxes was almost unknown. In the ports and modernized sections the incidence of dental caries was found to be 30 per cent of teeth examined.

The natural foods available for these two primitive groups wee very different in origin, but similar in chemical content, as will presently be shown.

Similarly, studies were made of remnants of the primitive Eskimos and Indians of Alaska and northern Canada and of those individuals of these groups who are at the point of contact with modern civilization.

The Eskimos of western and northern Alaska were reached by airplane and for several groups who had been but little influenced by modern civilization, hence living entirely on native foods, the per cent of teeth found to have been attacked by dental caries was 0.09, that is, only two teeth out of 2138 in seventy-two individuals. No effort apparently had ever been made at oral prophylaxis in these groups.

At the point of contact with modern civilization, where a government supply boat comes once a year to provision a government state, the incidence of caries among the local Eskimos increased to 13 per cent of the teeth, or 394 teeth out of 2254 in eighty-one individuals. At this point oral prophylaxis was being taught and practiced and, in spite of it, the increase in dental caries was 144-fold. The controlling factors in producing these changes will presently be shown to be nutritional. The natural food of the primitive Eskimos was almost entirely the animal life of the sea.

Good Teeth, Birth To Death – Letters by Dr. Gerard Judd

October 28th, 2010 3 comments

Here are a couple articles I feel I just need to share with you. I wish I had read this 10 years ago. Please do pass this on to others:

GOODBYE TO TOOTH CAVITIES! GUM INFECTION IS NOW ENDED!
by Dr. Gerard F. Judd, Ph.D., Chemistry and Fluoride Researcher

May 5, 2001

I now place in everyone’s hand the complete answer to tooth cavities. Following this procedure there will not be one more cavity, one more gingivitis case, or one more fluorosed, brittle, cracked tooth in the world. Bad teeth in Ireland, Canada, the USA, Britain, Australia and New Zealand will now be curbed. The 55-year fight with fluoride promoters (dentists) in these countries is over since research now establishes for certain that fluoride makes the teeth WORSE and not better (refs 1,2,3). My book, Good Teeth, Birth to Death lays out in no uncertain terms all the detail to achieve my claims.

I have talked to thousands of people about their teeth, many of whom have perfect teeth. In all those cases of perfect teeth, the practice of rinsing while eating has been the reason, and not fluoride. I am convinced that perfect teeth have little or nothing to do with genetics. The best way to have perfect teeth besides staying away from greedy or incompetent dentists is to pursue the following behavior:

  1. Rinse acids off the teeth during eating (ref 4).
  2. Brush the teeth with bar soap (ref 5).
  3. Take calcium pills with vitamin D daily (ref 6).
  4. Take monosodium phosphate daily (ref 7).
  5. Take freshly made sodium ascorbate daily for gum connections to the teeth (ref 8).
  6. Dispense with the worry that bacteria harm teeth: THEY CANNOT (ref 9).
  7. Dispense with the worry that sugar destroys teeth. I find sugar has little or nothing to do with cavities (ref 10).
  8. Avoid all fluoride products. They destroy teeth, unravel enzymes and cause 113 ailments (ref 11).

My 117-page book, Good Teeth, Birth to Death (Call 1-623-412-3955 for a copy delivered to you after which you will return $15) covers the perfect teeth subject thoroughly including the fluoride controversy. It is a product of thousands of hours of research. The index alone is 41 pages.

(ref 1) J Pub Health Dentistry, Nov 1993. This article states we have a tooth decay epidemic in the US since 42% of people over 65 years of age have no natural teeth, 44-year-olds have an average of 30 decays, 17-year-olds have an average of 11 decays, the blacks and the poor are twice as bad as this and the American Indians have four times the tooth trouble. American Indians have free dental care, and have had since almost the beginning of fluoridation. If fluoride helped prevent cavities at a rate of 80% per 15 years as the proponents of fluoride claimed in the beginning of the early studies of the forties, US residents would now have less than 2 cavities per person (my calculation).

(ref 2) In MediZine, V6 #2, April of 2000, the American Dental Association again states that a dental epidemic exists and 42% of those over 65 years of age and 25% of those over 44 years of age have no natural teeth. They admit their ignorance as to why.

(ref 3) 4 curves representing a total of 480,000 students and covering over 30 years of study indicate that the increasing concentration of fluoride in drinking water from 0 to 1 ppm increases the cavities 7, 43, 22 and 10% in Japan, Tucson, India and the US (see GTBD, pp 44,45,46 and 49). In other words, fluoridation about doubles cavitation from the normal (my calculation). Numerous studies verify the fact that fluoridation of water increases cavities.

(ref 4) Tooth enamel (essentially calcium phosphate) reacts with all acids to form cavities (see any chemistry text dealing with solubilities). The proton of the acid pulls the phosphate right out of the enamel, and fast. By drinking a sip of water along with the acid during eating, the acid reacts chemically with water immediately to form hydronium ion and thus the enamel is saved. One can use milk or coffee for the same purpose, since they are both non-acidic. Dr. Albert Schatz, Nobelist who discovered streptomycin, found several decades ago that sharks’ teeth with their excessive fluoride would dissolve just as readily in citric acid as ordinary non-fluoridated teeth, laying to rest the hypothesis that fluoride would stop cavities. The dental people (American Dental Association) pushed aside this discovery and Dr. Schatz’ discoveries regarding excessive baby mortalities caused by fluoridation in Chili, South America as insignificant. They returned his mail 3x unopened and would not deal with him.

Some harmful acids (with pH <4) which are tart to the taste and attack the enamel include lemons, grapefruit, oranges, pineapple, kiwi fruit, tomatoes, vinegar, cider, vitamin C (especially chewable) and stomach acid. The lower the pH, the more rapidly the acids attack. Body acid (extremely weak) is insignificant in this process. Non-acid foods such as beans, bread and potatoes have no action on teeth. Worry about such foods is over. The only worry about non-acid foods is if they will crack the teeth due to their hardness. Chewing ice, unpopped corn kernels, extremely hard nuts, bones or other hard objects is not smart, since teeth do have a breaking strength.

(ref 5) Reenamelization of the teeth occurs when they are clean. All toothpastes make a barrier of glycerine on the teeth which would require 20 rinses to get it off. A good solution for clean teeth, which I have used for 5 years, is bar soap. Wet the brush, swipe the bar two or three times with it, then brush the teeth thoroughly and the gums gently. Rinse with water three or four times. All oils are washed off the teeth and the gums are disinfected. The bacteria are killed by the soap. The teeth are then ready for reenamelization with calcium and phosphate in the diet. The enzyme adenosine diphosphatase delivers phosphate to the enamel surface. Do not use liquid soaps. Their different composition is harmful to the protoplasm.

Ingredients to Avoid in Personal Care, Hygiene and Beauty Products

October 17th, 2010 No comments

chemicalsI encourage you to check the ingredients listed on of your hair, skin, body, dental and personal hygiene products (i.e. shampoos, soap, tooth pastes, moisturizing creams, hair coloring, etc). Note that ingredients are listed by their weight, so the ones listed first make up more of the product than the ones listed last.

When reading the ingredients you are looking for the hidden carcinogens, irritants and other harmful ingredients. You may expect a lot of the cheap shampoo brands like Suave, Dove, VO5 and Pert Plus to contain bad ingredients, but you should know that some of the expensive, all natural or even organic brands may contain harmful ingredients.

Check the label of any product before purchasing it, inhaling it, eating it or applying on your skin (or on anything that you will touch or eat, including your pets).

This article will inform you about a few, but most common, of these harmful chemicals that belong in a chemistry lab, not your house, in mouth, or on your skin or hair. Don’t take my word for it, do your own research on these chemicals and make up your mind. This list is here to alert you, if you want to learn more Google is your friend.

I am not a chemist, I did not make any discoveries, I simply took the time to search online for all the bad ingredients first for my own use (as I was forgetting the names of the ingredients to avoid as my list kept getting longer) .. Now my list is posted here in this article, conveniently for you on one page, hopefully for someone out there to find helpful.

Here’s the list, with some details:

* Phthalates: Industrial compounds found in shampoos that enter the body through the skin and wreak havoc on the endocrine system. In fact, phthalates are associated with male obesity, insulin resistance and reduced sperm production.

* Triclosan: The University of Vermont lists triclosan as an antibacterial found in shampoos that interferes with normal bacterial levels in the body with continued use. Dilution in water can cause triclosan to mutate into a form of dioxin.

* Paraphenylenediamine, or 1,4-diaminobenzene, a contact allergen that is often used in the manufacture of black hair dyes and shampoos.

* Sodium Chloride (Salt – NaCI): Used to increase the viscosity in some cosmetics. Can cause eye and skin irritation if used in too high concentrations (Hampton). Its usually used to make a cheap, watery consistency product look thick and rich instead.

* Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS): Very harsh. Found in most shampoos, the manufacturers use it because it produces a lot of foam and it is cheap. Used in cleaning car engines. Northwestern Health Sciences University explains that sodium lauryl sulfate, found in some shampoo formulas, may actually alter your skin’s structure, allowing for deeper chemical penetration. Deep penetration makes it easier for dangerous chemicals to enter your blood stream. Showed penetration into the eyes, as well as systemic tissues (brain, heart, liver, etc.). SLS also shows long-term retention in tissues. In soaps and shampoos, there is an immediate concern relating to the penetration of these chemicals into the eyes and other tissues. This is especially important in infants, where considerable growth is occurring, because a much greater uptake occurs by tissues of younger eyes and SLS changes the amounts of some proteins in cells from eye tissues. Tissues of young eyes may be more susceptible to alternation by SLS (Green). Forms nitrates, a possible carcinogen when used in shampoos and cleansers containing nitrogen-based ingredients. These nitrates can enter the blood stream in large numbers from shampooing, bubble baths, bath and shower gels and facial cleansers. These synthetic substances are used in shampoos for their detergent and foam-building abilities. They can cause eye irritations, skin rashes, hair loss, scalp scurf similar to dandruff and allergic reactions. They are frequently disguised in pseudo-natural cosmetics with the parenthetic explanation “comes from coconut.” (Hampton) Dr. David H. Fine, the chemist who uncovered NDELA contamination in cosmetics, estimates that a person would be applying 50 to 100 micrograms of nitrosamine to the skin each time he or she used a nitrosamine-contaminated cosmetic. By comparison, a person consuming sodium nitrite-preserved bacon is exposed to less than 1 microgram of nitrosamine (Hampton).

* Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES) – milder, but still harsh Used as a wetting agent in the textile industry. Irritating to scalp and may cause hair loss (Wright).
Chemical name: Sodium Lauryl “ether” Sulfate An ether chain is added to SLS. Called a premium agent in cleansers and shampoos.
In reality it is very inexpensive but thickens when salt is added in the formula and produces high levels of foam to give the concentrated illusion it is thick, rich and expensive. .

Excerpts from “Options, the Alternative Cancer Therapy Book”

October 17th, 2010 No comments

One of these classic books you must know about, Option the Alternative Cancer Therapy Book is a very good reference book on the origins and history of various “alternative” cancer treatments.

One comment on Amazon said:

If you are considering a certain treatment, you would be wise to look into this book’s writeup on it. You will find accurate information on how it evolved and how, in many cases, it has been suppressed by the orthodox cancer “establishment.” You will even find some resources to contact about it.

Another comment said:

I have to say that this book impacted me more than any other book on alternative cancer treatments — and I’ve read scores of them. Richard Walters has done an excellent job of researching and presenting the histories and theories of most of the approaches you will ever hear about in your search for answers. And the way he presents the material is exciting and easy-to-understand. I take my hat off to this author for the gift of information he has given the world in such a well-written fashion. He may not present a few of the more recently developed cancer approaches, such as Poly-MVA or Protocel, but his chapters on many other current therapies such as Burzynski’s antineoplastons, Hydrazine Sulfate, DMSO, the Gerson Therapy, 714X, and Iscador (what Suzanne Somers used), among others, are truly award-winning.

For anyone wanting an in-depth understanding and overview of alternative cancer therapies up to recent years, this book is a must-read!

Publishers Weekly Review:

Walters’s book on alternative cancer treatments makes use of the elements found in science fiction and detective stories. Instead of soberly presenting a list of untraditional approaches to treatment, he dramatically unveils what he feels is a gigantic conspiracy to suppress the truth about noninvasive, nontoxic, unorthodox methods. He agrees with a remark he attributes to Nobel Prize winner Linus Pauling: “Everyone should know that the ‘war on cancer’ is largely a fraud.” This makes for some fascinating reading, but the science informing many of these treatments is unclear. The Rife generator, a bioelectric device that reportedly conquered terminal cancer in the 1930s, was decisively–and unfairly, argues Walter–discredited by the powers-that-were of conventional medicine. Essiac, an herbal tea reputed to cause remission in many cases of terminal cancer, and the Hoxsey Therapy, another herbal remedy linked to Native American and folk medicine, have been ignored or attacked by researchers and physicians. The many tales of miraculous cures are intriguing and seem to warrant further study, yet Walters believes that the testing of drugs and treatments on animals is not only cruel but ineffective–a view shared by few scientists. So the therapies in this book use people as guinea pigs. The reader is warned that while Walters’s guide is “not intended as endorsement for any particular therapies, it does illustrate how specific therapies work and may give hope and strength to readers.” The safest advice Walters gives is this: “Approach all therapies–conventional and alternative–with healthy skepticism and suspicion.”
Copyright 1992 Reed Business Information, Inc.

Amazon Review:

A comprehensive survey of alternative cancer treatments, Options is especially useful for including not only information about herbal, nutritional and other holistic approaches, but also about maverick doctors and scientists, and experimental drug therapies. This is information that is hard to find in any form, and almost impossible to find in language that is accessible to the non-scientist. Although translated from medicalese, the book retains a slightly sterile tone, emphasizing the scientific validity of the various therapies. But if you’ve been diagnosed with cancer and want facts on alternative therapies, Options offers synopses of research, anecdotal accounts of treatment and analysis of how some medical treatments become standard, while others become quackery. — From The WomanSource Catalog & Review: Tools for Connecting the Community for Women; review by PCP

I am writing about this book today so I can include a few excerpts from the book on oral health and cancer.

Here they are:

A few excerpts from the book:

A pioneer in alternative cancer treatment, Josef Issels, M.D. of Germany achieved remarkable remissions, even in advanced cancer patients through a combination of therapies. The methods he employed included removing sties of “focal infection,” such as infected teeth and tonsils. He believed they release toxins into the system that lower resistance and trigger disease. His experience showed a direct connection between dental and tonsillar foci and many of the illnesses responsible for early debilitation and untimely invalidizing. A survey conducted at his clinic found that on admission 90% of the adult cancer patients had between two and ten dead teeth. Very often he was confronted with x-ray negative dead teeth, root remnants and residual ostitis which had not been diagnosed and therefore, had not been removed.

Never Get A Root Canal

October 17th, 2010 No comments

Below I summarize an article titled “Why You Should Never Get A Root Canal” posted on January 16, 2010

Three major issues that are wrong in the main stream dental professions are:

1- mercury-filled amalgams,
2- root canals
3- any sort of dental filling material imaginable

It’s a good idea to remove existing root canals and to definitely avoid getting any new ones. Once a tooth is removed the empty space where the tooth was will be filled up with bone in due time.

Dentists say that a root canal allows one to hold on to their tooth -> Comment: a dead tooth.

Dentists will also tell you that bacteria wont be an issue, this is incorrect. Studies on thousands of teeth have demonstrated the presence of bacteria in 80% to 90% of the canals after they have been “sterilized.” -> I know an oral surgeon that removes root canals, she said they always smell bad, look bad and are infected!

Root canals are very profitable to the dentists.

“Modern testing procedures have confirmed the work of Dr. Weston Price’s research using DNA analysis, making any claim by the ADA that Price’s research being “outdated,” is an attempt to keep the public blind over the real dangers of root canals.”

“Dr. Josef Issels of Germany found that in his 40 years of treating terminal, end-stage cancer patients, 97% of them had root canals. He would not initiate his successful treatments until all root canals had been removed.”

“According to Dr. Weston Price, the primary bacteria found in root canals includes streptococcus, staphylococcus, and spirochetes. He found 90% of the bacteria in the teeth that produced the patients’ acute diseases were streptococcus and 65.5% of the time they belonged to the fecalis family. ”

This bacteria, enters the blood stream and travels to organs or tissue. -> Comment: This bacteria is extremely toxic, many times over, anaerobic bacteria have been found and identified in and around root canals.

Billions of bacteria live in and around root canals, they create the most toxic organic substances known such as “thio-ethers” these are 1000 times more toxic than botulism toxin, which used to be considered the most toxic organic substance.

“Mercury is the second most toxic substance on the planet, next to plutonium. When mercury or other dental filling material exchanges with bacteria, the harm becomes magnified.”

“The Toxic Element Research Foundation, headed by Dr. Hal Huggins has uncovered extremely disturbing data concerning the implications of root canal bacteria and various autoimmune diseases.”  This information, like many new and enlightening scientific discoveries throughout history has been ignored by mainstream dentists.

Know that “most dentists are ill-equipped in the removal of both amalgams and root canals.” Upon the removal of root canals, it is suggested by Dr. Hal Huggins to have a treatment of intravenous ascorbic acid (vitamin C) to help kill of the microbes.

To remove amalgam fillings, a special dentist should be found that specializes in this. Incorrect removal, residual toxicity can result. -> Comment: Most dentists that are not equipped will refuse to remove the amalgam since it is considered “toxic” and if they remove it without proper measure they will risk being poisoned themselves.

Root Canals, Nickle Braces, Crowns and Dentures Linked to Heart Attacks and Cancer!

October 17th, 2010 No comments

Nickel_chunkBelow you find must-know information that your dentist probably wont share with you. Educate yourself before you meet the dentist. Most of the dentists will answer your question int he same fashion claiming that root canals are safe, that nickle is not an issue, that amalgams in your mouth are not toxic, etc..

You gotta wonder why the main stream doctors are so .. docile. Is it simple ignorance, is it the result of an education system that teaches people to memorize and not question, are the dentists too busy working they don’t have time for personal research, maybe they lack motivation to research new findings, or maybe it is a convenient oversight when it comes to them making more money vs. speaking out against the “norms”.

Dr Hal Huggins, D.D.S.

in a lecture to the

Cancer Control Society 1993.

Tape 93F014. Cancer Control Society, 2043 N. Berendo St, LA, CA 90027. Ph: 213 663 7801.

Dr Huggins, D.D.S:

“More than 75% of the crowns placed today are nickel, and that is present in braces. Here we call it stainless steel. It is like silver fillings, it doesn’t have much silver in it, and you would pay for silver and gold what you wouldn’t pay for mercury. So it kind of boils down to a matter of salesmanship, and stainless steel sound pretty prestigious, so they put that in children, and what happens? You see teenage behaviour that may not have been there a few days before the braces were put on.

At the University of Colorado when I was nearly 50 years old I went back to take a degree in immunology because I could see I was affecting the immune system. The first case we studied, we took a woman and put braces on her, and I am kind of sensitive to immunology, I studied it for 4 years, and about 2 weeks after that I only knew about 2% of what was going on in immunology, it is a field that is expanding very rapidly, but a term I hear many people saying is – you know this product it boosts your immune system. How does it do that? What does it do to the T4′s and the T 8′s?-.when you can study the cells of the immune system with the sophisticated equipment we have, and we can find that in this case I put the braces in. We did all the sophisticated testing, we put the braces in, and then the patients ends up with big bruises on her thigh. How did they get there? Well, a little sloppy dentistry, but these are huge bruises, no trauma involved there. Emotional things, a lot of change. Sleeping patterns, the first thing to change in an immunological challenge? Yes, big changes there. Things begin to look a little uncomfortable by day 3 so we took the conventional blood test, and what did I find? Nothing I could identify at that time, but this was 10 years ago. Today I could identify it, then I couldn’t, but things were still getting worse, and that afternoon we did the T subsets over again and what did we find? Immune system shutdown. I mean the T4′s were zero, the T8′s were zero, T11′s were zero. All of these things may not have a lot of meaning, but I can tell you zero is not where they should be. Within a few hours of death. We decided maybe we better take the braces off. The patients was for it, the faculty was for it, I was for it, I mean this was my wife we are talking about so it is not a real scientific case. So we took the braces off and the immune system came back-in 3 moths we were almost half way back where we were 3 days before. It does not recover overnight.

And I have other records on my desk where they did not take the braces off on the fourth day, and the reports show the same changes in the white blood cells, the same changes in the red blood cells, the same changes in the body temperature, everything is identical except when we get to day 4 and the braces were not removed, that was the last date that was entered on the autopsy reports, because these kids died, as they can with what is called the chrome crowns. That is a cutesy little term, chrome crowns, but these kids, I see them in the airport all the time – and I see little kids with tri-focals on, glasses about that thick. When did you have your chrome crown placed? I see people pushing along in a wheelchair. I wonder when did you have your root canal done? Because root canals so far have turned out to be one of the most vile things that I have ever run into, and my life for the last 20 years has been with a lot of vile essense

In California we found a woman who had some nickel crowns placed, she ended up with a specific type of breast tumour and she went through the lumpectomy, she went to the support group afterwards, and she said to me you know my husband was talking to this guy out in Colorado about nickel being carcinogenic.

What does that mean?

That mean it produces cancer.

Do you suppose there is any relationship between my crowns and my breast tumour?

Another woman in the group said – well I went to Dr So and So dentist down the street here.

Root Canal Dangers and Cover-Up :: Interview with Dr. George Meining, D.D.S.

October 16th, 2010 No comments

RootCanal

About sixty years ago, Dr. Meinig was one of the founders of the American Association of Endodontists (root canal specialists).  Naturally, he has filled his share of root canals and when he wasn’t filling canals himself, he was teaching the technique to dentists across the country at weekend seminars and clinics.

He offered the world his experienced perspective on root canals exposing their latent dangers. About six years ago, having recently retired, he decided to read all 1174 pages of the detailed research of Dr. Weston Price, (D.D.S).

Upon reading these papers Dr. Meinig was startled and shocked. They provided valid documentation of systemic illnesses resulting from latent infections lingering in filled roots.

Dr. Meinig has since written a book entitled “Root Canal Cover-Up EXPOSED – Many Illnesses Result”, and has devoted himself to radio, TV, and personal appearances before groups in an attempt to blow the whistle and alert the public.

This is one interview with him:

:: note: this interview is re-posted here for archival purposes. The source is found at the end of the interview ::

Root Canals Pose Health Threat

MJ Please explain what the problem is with root canal therapy.

GM First, let me note that my book is based on Dr. Weston Price’s twenty-five years of careful, impeccable research. He led a 60-man team of researchers whose findings – suppressed until now rank right up there with the greatest medical discoveries of all time. This is not the usual medical story of a prolonged search for the difficult-to-find causative agent of some devastating disease. Rather, it’s the story of how a “cast of millions” (of bacteria) become entrenched inside the structure of teeth and end up causing the largest number of diseases ever traced to a single source.

MJ What diseases? Can you give us some examples?

GM Yes, a high percentage of chronic degenerative diseases can originate from root filled teeth. The most frequent were heart and circulatory diseases and he found 16 different causative agents for these. The next most common diseases were those of the joints, arthritis and rheumatism. In third place – but almost tied for second – were diseases of the brain and nervous system. After that, any disease you can name might (and in some cases has) come from root filled teeth.

Let me tell you about the research itself. Dr. Price undertook his investigations in 1900. He continued until 1925, and published his work in two volumes in 1923. In 1915 the National Dental Association (which changed its name a few years later to The American Dental Association) was so impressed with his work that they appointed Dr. Price their first Research Director. His Advisory Board read like a Who’s Who in medicine and dentistry for that era. They represented the fields of bacteriology, pathology, rheumatology, surgery, chemistry, and cardiology.

At one point in his writings Dr. Price made this observation: “Dr. Frank Billings (M.D.), probably more than any other American internist, is due credit for the early recognition of the importance of streptococcal focal infections in systemic involvements.”

What’s really unfortunate here is that very valuable information was covered up and totally buried some 70 years ago by a minority group of autocratic doctors who just didn’t believe or couldn’t grasp – the focal infection theory.

MJ What is the “focal infection” theory?

DAMS and Amalgam.org

October 3rd, 2010 No comments

I found and became a member of Dental Amalgam Mercury Solutions (DAMS) a non profit educational organization, based in Minnesota, that can help you learn about your teeth health, fluoride, amalgams, tooth extraction, root canals, biological and holistic dentists, etc.. Learn the real story behind Fluoridation and how teeth can (and always are) re-mineralizing or re-enamelizing.

I’ve posted a few topics in the past about dental health, you can find them under this post under ‘related articles’.

Quote from www.amalgam.org:

Dental Amalgam Mercury Fillings

Dental Amalgam Fillings, sometimes called “silver amalgams,” are actually half mercury. They are a time-release poison, a major source of mercury to those who have them. DAMS stands for Dental Amalgam Mercury Solutions and it is a non-profit organization based in Minnesota, in the United States, educating the public on mercury amalgams and other ways that dentistry may affect health.

This web page version is dated December 17, 2009.  www.amalgam.org is a historic web site on the mercury amalgam issue, first set up in March 1997. More content and more links are being developed.

The DAMS information packet, the DAMS periodic newsletter, Dental Truth, and the books and DVDs that DAMS sells all provide information on dental amalgam filling (“silver fillings”), crowns, root canals, gum disease, fluoride and other important topics. On the subject of dental amalgam mercury fillings, we describe the symptoms of mercury toxicity, safe amalgam removal, choosing suitable replacement materials, and safe, natural detoxification including alternatives to the drug approaches. Many toxins can be found in crowns, bridges, dentures and in the mouths rinses and jell treatments that contain fluoride. Root canal treated teeth are dead teeth and are therefore prone to infection – infection which can be very toxic and hard to get rid of because there is no blood flow into a dead tooth. Such “root canals” have been linked to cancer and other chronic illnesses. The patient may want to consider extraction of such teeth, but extractions also merit some discussion; tooth extractions must be done properly and thoroughly in order to avoid leaving infection behind in the jawbone, a cause of jawbone disease. Jawbone disease is fairly common but is often overlooked and is rarely diagnosed. Jawbone disease (also jawbone “cavitations”) may cause facial pain, and may cause or contribute to a weakened immune system, and many of the same neurological and auto immune diseases that infected root canalled teeth and toxic metals may also be a factor in.

Is there a cover-up of these many dental – health hazards? It appears so. We understand that the dental industry and the American Dental Association (ADA) dismiss these many health concerns and many of us view their dismissal, their claims of amalgam safety as dishonest and a cover-up. We don’t know what the ADA’s inner thinking is, but behaps the ADA feels that, since it has defended and promoted the use of mercury amalgam fillings throughout its entire history, it could not survive if it were to admit that it has been wrong over the last century and a half, as mis-informed and harmed millions of people, including its own dentist members, some of them seriously, through its cover-up. Most of the media also participates in cover-up even though, based on the science and the clinical record, the cover-up should be over and amalgams should be banned in the USA. We note that amalgams have been banned in Norway and Sweden, so it is possible for the truth, and a responsible public policy, to triumph in a functioning democracy. Unfortunately, here in the USA the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) appears to be captured by the ADA, and remains in cover-up mode. No matter how much damning science is presented to the FDA Dental Division and how many case reports of patient injury are presented, FDA remains in a state of denial and cover-up of the hazards of dental amalgam fillings.

Non-profits to the rescue. DAMS is a tax-exempt educational non-profit organization helping educate people in the US, Canada and elsewhere on these very important dental-health issues. People who wish to get their dental amalgam fillings removed should find knowledgeable practitioners who can remove amalgams safely, with elaborate precautions to protect the patient. Such knowledgeable dentists are not merely “mercury-free” or “cosmetic” dentists; they should be “holistic” or “biological” dentists, meaning that they pay attention to the effects that their work has on the whole person and on his/her underlying health. We must emphasize that it is very hazardous to have mercury amalgam fillings replaced by a “regular” (i.e. conventional) dentist who does not have the training and equipment to replace the amalgams with elaborate precautions.  DAMS maintains a list of holistic (biological) dentists in every state and province who are trained and equipped to replace amalgams safely. Hopefully they will also use better choice replacement materials, use natural, less toxic approaches to gum health and decay prevention (no fluoride) and be aware of the hazards of root canal treatments. To request a list of knowledgeable practitioners in your state of province, please call DAMS at 651-644-4572.

Please e-mail us at DAMS@usfamily.net Please leave your name and full address on the DAMS voice mail or with our person who answers the phone. . We normally mail out the list (or lists) with our information guide. Please accept our info guide, read it and study it. It has a wealth of information and helps make you a more informed dental patient. It discusses in detail the dental amalgam mercury issue and other ways that dentistry may affect health. To talk with a DAMS staff person, you may also call 651-644-4572. You may be surprised that a real person will answer. There may be additional information that can be supplied in your information packet that helps address your special questions.

To read more scientific details on mercury, amalgam and their health impacts, please go to our web site www.flcv.com/indexa.html. This is one of the largest, most detailed web sites on the hazards of dental amalgam fillings, with hundreds of scientific abstracts and references.

The information packet that you are being mailed and the information that you are being given on the phone are provided at no charge; but a contributions is requested. DAMS is a very caring, generous non-profit organization; no one is denied help on the basis of lack of money. But please look for a donation envelope in you packet, with a reply strip and donate what you can to keep the work of DAMS going, so it can continue to help you and others. You may also join DAMS as a member in order to receive the DAMS newsletter, Dental Truth, on an ongoing basis. (Ask for a sample newsletter in your packet, if you like). Memberships are normally $25 per year, and less for low income people. Contributions to DAMS are tax deductible.

Please remember, whether calling us at 651-644-4572 or e-mailing us at dams@usfamily.net, to provide name and full mailing address in order to receive the info guide and our list of holistic dentists in your state; and, if you need a call back, leave your phone number, including area code, and speak slowly in giving your phone number.

Baking Soda, What a Precious Salt

October 27th, 2009 No comments

I just wanted to write a quick post and say “Baking Soda, What a Precious Salt!”  Baking soda can be used for so many things, from cooking to deodorizing,  it makes a good tooth paste, has anti fungal effects and can be used to wash hair and quickly eliminate dandruff. What a useful precious salt!

Do you use baking soda for things other than cooking?

Below you will see what wikipedia says about backing soda. Retrieved 10/27/2009 10PM CST.

Sodium bicarbonate or sodium hydrogen carbonate is the chemical compound with the formula NaHCO3. Sodium bicarbonate is a white solid that is crystalline but often appears as a fine powder. It has a slight alkaline taste resembling that of washing soda (sodium carbonate). It is a component of the mineral natron and is found dissolved in many mineral springs. The natural mineral form is known as nahcolite. It is also produced artificially.

Since it has long been known and is widely used, the salt has many related names such as baking soda, bread soda, cooking soda, bicarbonate of soda. Colloquially, its name is shortened to sodium bicarb, bicarb soda, or simply bicarb. The word saleratus, from Latin sal æratus meaning “aerated salt“, was widely used in the 19th century for both sodium bicarbonate and potassium bicarbonate. The term has now fallen out of common usage.

Cooking

Main article: leavening agent

Sodium bicarbonate is primarily used in cooking (baking) where it reacts with other components to release carbon dioxide, that helps dough “rise”. The acidic compounds that induce this reaction include phosphates, cream of tartar, lemon juice, yogurt, buttermilk, cocoa, vinegar, etc. Sodium bicarbonate can be substituted for baking powder provided sufficient acid reagent is also added to the recipe.[3] Many forms of baking powder contain sodium bicarbonate combined with one or more acidic phosphates (especially good) or cream of tartar. Can also be used for softening peas (⅛ tsp. per pint of water and bring to boil for one hour)

Thermal decomposition causes sodium bicarbonate alone to act as a raising agent by releasing carbon dioxide at baking temperatures. The mixture for cakes using this method can be allowed to stand before baking without any premature release of carbon dioxide.

Neutralization of acids and bases

Many laboratories keep a bottle of sodium bicarbonate powder within easy reach, because sodium bicarbonate is amphoteric, reacting with acids and bases. Furthermore, as it is relatively innocuous in most situations, there is no harm in using excess sodium bicarbonate. Lastly, sodium bicarbonate powder may be used to smother a small fire. [4]

A wide variety of applications follows from its neutralization properties, including ameliorating the effects of white phosphorus in incendiary bullets from spreading inside an afflicted soldier’s wounds.[5] Sodium bicarbonate can be added as a simple solution for raising the pH balance of water (increasing total alkalinity) where high levels of chlorine (2-5 ppm) are present as in swimming pools and aquariums.[6] Read more…

Cure Tooth Decay – Heal and Prevent Cavities with Nutrition

September 11th, 2009 1 comment

On 09/09/09 I wrote an article titled Diet and Fish Oil to Prevent Tooth Decay? where I referenced a discussion in the community forum titled ‘Fish Oil to Prevent Tooth Decay?‘.

I’ve just researched the book Cure Tooth Decay: Heal and Prevent Cavities with Nutrition (First Edition). I was impressed by the comments that I ordered a copy of this book from Amazon a few hours ago. The user reviews were very encouraging that I decided  the book was worth reading and perhaps trying out some of its tips. I am of the belief that every idea is worth examining, and that usually, the most effective and correct solutions are the simplest ones, this applies to math, physics, engineering as well as it applies to the human body and health, common sense, isn’t it?

I’ve had my share of dental issues as a kid, I remember having many teeth extracted, as an adult these dental issues kept haunting me. It didn’t make sense because I followed the rules, I brushed and ate well and used mouth wash. I look forward to reading this book.

Here’s some info about the book, based on the Amazon comments I read. The book follows on a trail-blazing dentist, Weston Price. The book outlines mistakes of the western society when it comes to food, it discusses how primitive cultures in the 1930′s (now largely decimated by modernization) had remained immune to tooth decay.

Besides research done by Dr. Weston Price, Nagel draws on personal experience and his child’s. The book has a substantial section devoted solely to children’s diets and the connection to their healthy teeth.

It makes sense that health at large effects the health of teeth, if you are in poor health your teeth will undoubtedly suffer. The book discusses how dental health may actually be an indicator of overall wellness.

This sounds like simple common sense to me.

Here’s a quote:

“Years ago, when people were afflicted with various types of ailments and diseases, it was common practice to blame evil spirits. People of the world still do this today, except that these evil spirits now have a new name. Sci entists, doctors, dentists, and government officials have decided that these new ‘evil spirits’ are called micro-organisms (viruses, bacteria, etc.)… The current theory of tooth decay is more like a superstition than a scientifically verified truth… The theory that bacteria thrive on sucrose, and then produce acids that eat away our tooth enamel, seems to be convincing. But it defies both science and logic… A daily mouthwash of some anti-bacterial agent would cure all cavities, if the bacterial theory were true. The answer is clear: what you have been told about tooth decay is a pure, sweet, child-like fantasy.”

Diet and Fish Oil to Prevent Tooth Decay?

September 9th, 2009 No comments

ToothA couple days ago a new discussion was started in the community forum titled ‘Fish Oil to Prevent Tooth Decay?‘.

The topic of holistic dentistry, root canals and the health of teeth was talked about on Seeking Wholeness in the past, a couple articles come to mind, the Holistic Dentistry article and the Dentistry without Mercury article.

This recent discussion in the community forum is an exciting one because it discusses an area that is often overlooked, namely what impact does nutrition (or life style in general) have on the health of your teeth.

I quote from the discussion forum

If brushing, flossing, massive fluoridation campaigns, and dental surgery were effective in preventing tooth decay, it would not get worse over time. It would stay the same, or get better. This is what I refer to as unscientifically sound practices. If we are to examine the effects of our dental care as a society, the statistics clearly show it is a failure, as tooth decay becomes worse and worse over time. Either Nature is fundamentally flawed and has doomed us to a life that includes decaying teeth, or humans are flawed in understanding and utilizing Nature.

Until we change the way we live, and return to more natural and life-building foods, the trend of tooth decay worsening with age, will continue.
What Really Causes Tooth Decay

Here’s the natural diet that was suggested in this discussion that can allegedly make teeth healthy:

1. Raw grass-fed dairy including, milk, cheese, cream and butter.
2. Organs of sea animals including fish organs, fish heads, fish eggs, oysters, clams, mussels, and crab and lobster with the innards.
3. Organs of land animals, including liver, bone marrow, tongue, heart, kidneys, pancreas, adrenal glands, gonads and for the more adventurous, brain, eyes and stomach lining.

Holistic Dentistry Tooth Extraction Vs. A Conventional Root Canal

November 27th, 2008 13 comments

Most holistic dentists prefer to extract a tooth than to do a root canal mainly because they believe root canals are never a 100% sterile and bacteria left behind could flourish if your immune system is compromised. My (non-holistic) dentist said that 95% o root canals are successful, this leaves 5% of root canals to fail. If they fail, an infection can occur at the bone structure that may not be easily detectable.

I found that not all holistic dentists have this position, almost none of the traditional dentists prefer extraction over a root canal. Over 95% of root canals are successful. So many people have had root canals, multiple of them. These root canal procedures are done routinely and safely. However, just because every body else is doing something doesn’t mean that it’s the best choice. For instance, take drinking pop, or using cell phones, eating fast food, eating lots of meat, smoking, getting drunk, need I continue?.. Many people take actions that negatively impact their well being for whatever reasons, be it lack of information, disinformation, ignorance, lack of interest, etc…

Here, in trying to decide if root canals are good or bad, IMHO (In my humble opinion), we are faced with a lack of information, making deciding what’s best a little tricky. I shared what I know here and ask you to contribute what you know so we can all benefit.
