Say No to SOPA
I had no idea, but thanks to Wikipedia, now I do and so do you. Some people hate the FREE internet, the free internet doesnt serve the elite, power hungry, and profit-minded interests.. But, the free internet is so crucial, it allowed humanity to connect, share, and offer an age of knowledge and free exchange of ideas… We dont want to lose that. Read on:
To: English Wikipedia Readers and Community
From: Sue Gardner, Wikimedia Foundation Executive Director
Date: January 16, 2012
Today, the Wikipedia community announced its decision to black out the English-language Wikipedia for 24 hours, worldwide, beginning at 05:00 UTC on Wednesday, January 18 (you can read the statement from the Wikimedia Foundation here). The blackout is a protest against proposed legislation in the United States—the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) in the U.S. House of Representatives, and the PROTECT IP Act (PIPA) in the U.S. Senate—that, if passed, would seriously damage the free and open Internet, including Wikipedia.
This will be the first time the English Wikipedia has ever staged a public protest of this nature, and it’s a decision that wasn’t lightly made. Here’s how it’s been described by the three Wikipedia administrators who formally facilitated the community’s discussion. From the public statement, signed by User:NuclearWarfare, User:Risker and User:Billinghurst:
- It is the opinion of the English Wikipedia community that both of these bills, if passed, would be devastating to the free and open web.
- Over the course of the past 72 hours, over 1800 Wikipedians have joined together to discuss proposed actions that the community might wish to take against SOPA and PIPA. This is by far the largest level of participation in a community discussion ever seen on Wikipedia, which illustrates the level of concern that Wikipedians feel about this proposed legislation. The overwhelming majority of participants support community action to encourage greater public action in response to these two bills. Of the proposals considered by Wikipedians, those that would result in a “blackout” of the English Wikipedia, in concert with similar blackouts on other websites opposed to SOPA and PIPA, received the strongest support.

Cancer Explained by Kelley Eidem
Kelley Eidem, author The Doctor Who Cures Cancer
Hi,
I wrote this about one o’clock last night and posted it on Facebook. The feedback has been tremendous. Please share it far and wide. Here is what I wrote that everyone is so thrilled about…
When we want to cure a cancer we should look at the lynch pins of what cancer needs to function. First, is an unbalanced pH, either too acidic or too alkaline. In either of those cases cancer is always a possibility along with other illnesses as well. (Yes, being too alkaline also promotes cancer and other diseases.)
The second lynch pin is fibrin. Cancer cells are covered with fibrin. There is about 15 times as much fibrin around then as compared to other cells. So why is fibrin so important? Let me count the ways.
Fibrin’s stickiness mucks up the ability of the immune system to reach the cancer cells. Fibrin provides the support structure for the cancer cell’s feeding tubes. Fibrin protects the feeding tubes with its stickiness.
So what happens if the fibrin is washed away? The cancer cells are exposed. The feeding tubes are exposed and without supporting structure.
As is taught in anatomy and physiology classes from day one: Structure determines function. The feeding tubes need the fibrin support to function properly, i.e., to feed the cancer cell. Since the cancer cell isn’t being fed properly the cancer cells withers and dies.
So how do you get rid of fibrin? There are many things that will do that. Hot peppers, ginger and garlic are three of them. The hotter the pepper, the better. Modified citrus pectin, and proteolytic (systemic) enzymes are two more. Probably any volatile oil from spices will have a positive effect. Because volatile oils are…well…volatile the most potent herbs and spices would be those that are freshly grated or ‘bruised. So for instance a fresh mint leaf that is freshly rubbed will release the oils. Within several minutes most of the active oil from any spice will dissipate.
Do those two things: balance the pH and melt away the fibrin, and the cancer has no leg to stand on.
It’s not hard and cancer need not be scary. As you can see cancer is weak and vulnerable once you know the keys to success. You don’t have to run here and there wondering will this work, will that work? All you need to know is whether the agent has the properties to melt fibrin.
To make it real simple, remember when you ate a hot spicy food like a pepper or horseradish or wasabi and it made your nose run. The runny nose is partly fibrin. From your own experience of that runny nose you can see how overpowering the volatile oils are and how utterly defeated the fibrin is compared to it.
The fibrin in cancer is no different. It’s a weakling. You simply melt away the ’snot’ and the cancer cell shrinks up and dies. So now you can see why cancer can be wiped out rather quickly if you use the right tools. There is no need for stupid things like surgery, chemo or radiation.
There is no need for a biopsy either. Who cares about satisfying the doctor’s curiousity? If cancer is suspected, do the things that wipe it out, and then go on your merry way. You don’t have to miss a school play, or any other activity you would have otherwise engaged in.
Remember, when people are first diagnosed with cancer, the usually just have some troublesome pain or a bump of some kind. It’s seldom killer pain that brings them to the doctor. It’s only after treatment starts that things go so badly and people are too sick to participate in their normal life. Well you can skip all that bad stuff. Wipe out the ’snot” and you’re 90% there.
I hope each of you will hit the reshare link because what is laid out here in this one sharing could end most cancer for
you, your family, your relatives, and all your friends.

Citizens for Health Alert – 10 Days Left To Say “NO” To NDI Guidance
November 22, 2011
Dear Citizen for Health,
By now you are familiar with our campaign opposing the FDA’s “Draft Guidance for Industry: Dietary Supplements: New Dietary Ingredient Notifications and Related Issues”. We believe this document reflects the FDA’s intention to willfully and grossly misinterpret the law, especially the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act of 1994 (DSHEA), regarding New Dietary Ingredients (NDIs) and filing submissions for them.
Thousands of you have demonstrated your commitment to health freedom with messages to your elected representatives and comments to the FDA, and we at CFH have submitted ours as well. You can read those comments here.
The deadline for comments is December 2. With only ten days left, we’ve created a petition to be delivered to Congress and the Presdient calling on them follow up with the FDA once the comment period closes as a final push to get this dangerous Guidance withdrawn. The targets here are different, so if you have already sent comments to the FDA, augment your voice by signing the petition too!
As we’ve already made clear, if this guidance moves forward to govern future FDA policy it will strike at the very root of our health freedoms, and supplements and other products generally recognized as safe for nearly two decades will be re-assessed as if they contained new ingredients. This would cause major disruption in the dietary supplement market; force a significant number of products off the shelves; and result in revenue losses of over a billion dollars and the unemployment of over 100,000 Americans.
That’s why we need your help now, more than ever, to have the kind of impact that will make the FDA withdraw the guidance.
We want to amss at least 10,000 signatures in the next ten days so act quickly, and be sure to keep an eye out for further developments in this critical campaign.
As always, thanks for your participation,
Two Vitamin C Tablets Every Day Could Save 200,000 Lives Every Year
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Orthomolecular Medicine News Service, November 22, 2011
Two Vitamin C Tablets Every Day Could Save 200,000 Lives Every Year
Ascorbate Supplementation Reduces Heart Failure
(OMNS, Nov 22, 2011) New research has reported that risk of heart failure decreases with increasing blood levels of vitamin C [1]. Persons with the lowest plasma levels of ascorbate had the highest risk of heart failure, and persons with the highest levels of vitamin C had the lowest risk of heart failure.
According to the US Centers for Disease Control (CDC) there are about 600,000 deaths from heart disease each year. [2] This is an enormous number. The definition of heart failure used by the study authors was on the basis of drugs prescribed, which would include all forms of heart disease that cause death. This agrees well with the CDC definition.
Specifically, the study found that each 20 micromole/liter (μmol/L) increase in plasma vitamin C was associated with a 9% reduction in death from heart failure. That works out to 54,000 fewer deaths from heart failure for each increase in 20 μmol/L plasma vitamin C. If everyone took high enough doses of vitamin C to reach the highest quartile (80 μmol/L), that would work out to approximately 216,000 fewer deaths per year. Just from taking vitamin C.
What is Heart Failure?
The heart muscle fails for many reasons. As we get older, it weakens and may not get enough nutrients to keep it healthy. A severe heart attack, that does not kill the patient but has caused significant damage to the heart muscle, may leave the heart in a very weakened state. Long standing or acute high blood pressure can put a massive strain on the heart and cause it to fail. An abnormal beating of the heart such as a very fast heart rate, an irregular beat or a lot of missed beats will result in a less effective pumping and eventual failure. Anemia will make the heart pump harder and faster in an attempt to deliver enough oxygen to the organs. The valves in the heart which direct blood flow are made up of an important fibrous strengthening tissue called collagen. Weakness or tearing of these valves can cause the blood to flow backwards, making the heart pump very inefficiently and eventually causing it to fail. When the heart muscle begins to fail, there is a buildup of carbon dioxide and waste products, resulting in weakening of the kidneys and liver. Eventually, fluid builds up in all the organs and the person presents with severe fatigue, shortness of breath (from fluid in the lungs) and swelling of the ankles.
Viruses and other microorganisms can attack the heart and weaken the heart muscle cells permanently by causing viral myocarditis. As the heart muscle cells get older they may require more energy to work and a greater level of protection from free radical damage. Nutrients such as magnesium, orotic acid, coenzyme Q10, acetyl L-Carnitine, and others may be required. Toxins, chemotherapeutic drugs, alcohol and deficiencies of some nutrients such as selenium may cause the heart to increase the size of its cells to compensate for the weakness. An enlargement of the heart muscle is called cardiomyopathy. These hearts are much more likely to fail.
Medical treatment of cardiac failure uses drugs that open the arteries, reduce blood pressure, and force the excessive fluid out of the body (diuretics). Drugs known as ACE Inhibitors improve quality of life and survival. Diet, fluid and salt restriction, and tolerable exercise are essential. For the most severe cases, a heart transplant may be required. However, many of these treatments have significant side effects. For example, treatment with diuretics to remove excess fluid will tend to lower the plasma vitamin C level and exacerbate the causes of cardiac failure.
How Much Vitamin C is Needed?
It takes less vitamin C than you may have thought. To achieve a plasma level of 80 μmol/L, and thereby reduce deaths by 216,000 per year, requires a daily dosage of about 500 mg of vitamin C. This is only one or two tablets per day, costing less than ten cents.
3,000 to 8,000 mg/day, in continued divided doses, can achieve a plasma level twice as high (160 μmol/L). This much C could save an additional 216,000 lives as it is an additional 80 μmol/L, assuming the relationship holds.
We can go still higher, and without intravenous administration. 1,000 mg of oral vitamin C per hour for 12 hours (12,000 mg/day) will result in a plasma level of about 240 μmol/L. A single 5,000 milligram dose might take you to a peak of 240 μmol/L, but only for about 2-4 hours after the intake. That is why the dosage needs to be spread out: better absorption, gradual excretion, higher plasma levels . . . and better results.
Protect Your Supplements from the FDA – File a Comment
Besides emailing your senators and congressperson as explained in this post, it’s important to file your comments with the FDA itself, which will appear in the Federal Register and hopefully add to the voices of others and help save our supplements; otherwise, the FDA will claim that no one objected.
The link below will take you to where you can Submit a Comment. In one of the mandatory fields, it asks you the name of your organization: you can enter Citizens for Health in this (they’re one of the organizations leading our fight to save our supplements).
Feel free to customize your message and tell the FDA why access to supplements is important to you. The Comment form only allows a few words, so you might want to just put a short summary in it and save a more detailed message in a text (.txt) file, which it allows you to attach.
You can copy the text found here (sample letter) or modify the letter to congresspersons found here , and paste it into Microsoft word, word pad or notepad then save it as a .txt file.
Please note that, due to many requests from people who would be harmed by their loss of supplements, the FDA has granted an extension for us to file our comments — but we must submit them quickly, as they will not consider any submitted after December 2, 2011.

Draft Guidance for Industry: Dietary Supplements: New Dietary Ingredient Notifications and Related Issues
Re: Docket No. FDA-2011-D-0376-0079, “Draft Guidance for Industry: Dietary Supplements: New Dietary Ingredient Notifications and Related Issues”
This guidance, if enacted, would put in place a series of onerous regulations for the supplement industry that will make it extremely expensive and difficult for the nutritional industry to keep manufacturing supplements — so expensive and difficult, in fact, that it will put most legitimate manufacturers out of business and potentially eliminate most supplements from the marketplace.
The rules as proposed seem innocent enough, requiring a stringent approval process for all supplements on the marketplace since 1994, when Congress passed the Dietary Supplement Health and Information Act (DHSEA). DHSEA was actually intended to protect nutritional and herbal manufacturers from unwarranted FDA harassment, and allow Americans access to legitimate supplements.
The sponsors of DHSEA intended that the law would reduce the regulatory burden on supplement manufacturers, and provide a streamlined process of bringing new products to market. Instead of honoring the purpose of DHSEA, the FDA in its newly proposed regulations seems determined to institute a complicated, burdensome, and financially prohibitive approval process for each and every new supplement on the market since 1994, akin to the drug approval process. No supplement company has the resources to finance such a procedure, which can run into the tens of millions of dollars for every new product. Experts who have reviewed the proposed regulations claim that the FDA could insist that even previously available supplements would also be subjected to such requirements and be classified as “synthetic food additives” – and their manufacturers frankly would have to close down.
The FDA already has the power and authority to prohibit sale of mislabeled, harmful, or dangerous supplements. Through its Good Manufacturing Practices regulations already in place, supplement manufacturers must meet stringent requirements for safety and potency. The FDA also has the authority to punish manufacturers who make inappropriate unsubstantiated claims. In effect, the FDA already has all the power it needs to regulate effectively nutritional supplements.
A colleague said, “In all the years I have been fighting for freedom of choice in health care, the currently proposed regulations are the most troubling, most far-reaching, and with potentially the most catastrophic effects, not only for my own health, family and friends, but for those tens of millions of Americans who rightfully and intelligently use nutritional products for their health-supporting benefits. In other words, this bill creates extraneous red tape, paperwork, and burdensome labeling requirements when everything the bill mandates is already being accomplished under current law!”
During this time, supplements have enjoyed an unrivaled safety record. Statistics show they’re safer than prescription drugs, cosmetics, medical devices, and even safer than food!
According to the Poison Control Centers, there were no deaths due to supplements in 2008. In 2009, there was one.
When the Dietary Health Supplement Education Act was passed, Congress intended a simple notification process for new dietary ingredients. This guidance would turn this into a pre-approval scheme, which goes against the intent of the law. The FDA already has ample regulatory authority to take action against a product if it’s unsafe. They don’t need to have this pre-approval power, too.
This could be disastrous to public health. At a time when preventative measures are even more important to health care costs, the FDA is limiting access to preventative health care.
The guidance creates unnecessary regulations that limit my access to the dietary supplements I rely on. The expensive and burdensome process will force between 20,000 and 42,000 dietary supplements to be removed from the market and will increase the cost of those supplements that remain.
Health Risks Of Herbal Dietary Supplements
Health Risks Of Herbal Dietary Supplements
by Dr. James A. Duke
The front page of the health section of the March 19th, 2000 Washington Post, read: “Mounting evidence suggests that increasing numbers of Americans are falling seriously ill or even dying after taking dietary supplements [...] The victims include men and women of all ages as well as children whose parents are feeding them snacks, drinks and nostrums made with herbal supplements that are neither regulated by the federal government nor tested for their effects on the young.”
With such ominous articles appearing now regularly in the media, and with more and more people taking herbs, it makes sense to ask, “How does the harm done by herbs compare with harm done by other things?” Last year, several people called to ask me what I thought about another article in the Washington Post, “Health Concerns Grow Over Herbal Aids.”
My immediate reaction: mostly nonsense and some truth. The nonsense is fertilizing fears among the lay public and driving them back into the waiting arms of the greedy “pharmaceuticalists.” Two of my good friends were so alarmed by the negative press on herbs that they stopped herbs completely.
The growing health concerns from mass-media articles are being fertilized by trigger-happy journalists, pharmaceutical manufacturers and promoters, and physicians who know so little about herbs, many of them unfamiliar with the statistic from the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) that prescription drugs are killing 140,000 Americans a year. Herbs (usually through abuse or exceeding recommended dosage) are killing fewer than 100.
WHERE’S THE TRUTH
The elements of truth the Post article adduced apply mostly not to herbs, but synthetic supplements that never saw an herb. The Post article mentions ephedra, a Chinese herb, which can be used wisely and properly (in fact, various species have been used medicinally for thousands of years).
Reminding the readers that automobiles, which killed 41,826 people nationally in 1998, or diseases such as kidney disease, which killed 26,295, kill more people than herbs, the author of the Post article, in all fairness, should have included the other figures, the 40,000-100,000 killed by medical mistakes, the 98,000-140,000 a year killed by prescription drugs in American hospitals and the 77,000-88,000 killed by hospital-caused nosocomial infections. Surely he was aware of these figures. If not, he should not have condemned the more salubrious herbal statistics without comparing the pharmaceutical death rate.
I’ll do that for him today — honestly, not sensationally. Summary: regulated pharmaceuticals kill many more Americans than herbal medicine, a thousand fold more.
Then Guggliotta attempts to nail some of my herbal alternatives. St. John’s wort is fast becoming a Prozac “competitor.” Actually, St. John’s wort is fast becoming a Zoloft competitor, and is being studied as such at Duke University. I predict that St. John’s wort will prove to have fewer side effects than Zoloft. Kava is a more logical alternative to Prozac, less addictive and probably much safer.
Melatonin is a good remedy for jet lag with in my own experience. A supplement it is. An herb it ain’t. Ginkgo biloba allegedly slows dementia. Conversely, Tacrine (Cognex), the first FDA-approved drug for Alzheimer’s, helps about 25 percent of the patients for no more than two years, allegedly upsetting the livers of 25 percent of those patients.
Matter of fact, as Guggliotta says, senna, a natural purgative, was added to Ex-Lax last year to replace a a side-effect-associated synthetic chemical. I suppose Guggliotta’s comments might have herbal people, frightened by his comments, abandoning the ephedra and rushing out to get Ex-Lax for weight-loss and exercise regimes. Most of the alternative practitioners discourage the use of any laxative, natural or synthetic, for protracted periods. Instead, we urge exercise and diet (at least five fruits and five vegetables).

Detailed letter:
Subject: FDA Supplement Guidance Will Result In The Loss Of Tens Of Thousands Of Jobs and Cost the Economy $21.2 Billion To $39.8 Billion Annually.
What the FDA is telling Congress is misleading. In recent weeks, the FDA has launched an aggressive new campaign to put in place a series of onerous regulations for the supplement industry that in effect would drive most legitimate manufacturers out of business and potentially eliminate most supplements from the marketplace and increase the cost of others by many folds.
Unfortunately, there was a dangerous loophole in the 1994 DSHEA law: while supplements that existed at the time were protected by law, the FDA was given the authority to regulate any new ingredients introduced after Oct. 15, 1994.
What the FDA is telling Congress is misleading: that it has “released draft guidelines intended to assist the dietary supplement industry in deciding when a premarket safety notification for a dietary supplement containing a new dietary ingredient (NDI) is necessary, and in preparing premarket safety notifications. This guidance, when finalized, does not create new regulations or law”, but the problem is that the FDA is trying to turn the clock back with the laws it already has. Our elected officials clearly don’t understand the problem yet. The FDA is trying to turn the clock back with the laws it already has. The guidance document makes it clear that the FDA is willfully and grossly misinterpreting the law, especially the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act of 1994 (DSHEA), with regard to re-defining NDIs and filing submissions for them. The agency’s attempt to create new regulatory requirements using a guidance document is also in violation of the Administrative Procedure Act (APA), and therefore the agency is in violation of the law.
Those of us who researched this issue need Congress’s help because it has the power to rein in the FDA and have done so in the past when many voters complained that their health would suffer if their supplements were taken away.
This is a blatant abuse of power. What the FDA is doing here is performing an end-run around the existing law. According to the law, the FDA has to prove a dietary supplement is unsafe for it to be taken off the market. These new guidelines turn that on its head. They are clearly not what Congress intended.
The FDA rules as proposed seem innocent enough, requiring a stringent approval process for all supplements on the marketplace since 1994, when Congress passed the Dietary Supplement Health and Information Act (DHSEA). DHSEA was actually intended to protect nutritional and herbal manufacturers from unwarranted FDA harassment, and allow Americans access to legitimate supplements.
The cost of complying with these guidelines would be astronomical. Experts estimate that the studies required would cost between $100,000 and $200,000 per ingredient notification. That adds up to millions of dollars per supplement company. Smaller companies would not be able to afford this and would go out of business.
The economy is already hurting and we have high unemployment. If enacted as currently proposed, this guidance will have a massive impact to the dietary supplement industry and further hurts our economy. Expert analyses show that this guidance will cost the economy $21.2 billion to $39.8 billion annually and result in the loss of tens of thousands of jobs.
Numerous attorneys have pointed out that the FDA’s attempt to create new regulatory requirements using a guidance document is in violation of the Administrative Procedure Act (APA), and that this amounts to illegal sleight-of-hand, using a guidance as a side-door effort to avoid the public meetings that would promote a more formal debate. Some have stated:
“The Draft Guidance on NDIs is contemptuous of the intent of Congress when it passed DSHEA, because instead of ensuring access to a full range of products, it obstructs their path to the marketplace.
Natural & Herbal Medicines & the FDA – Bollinger and Farley
The below is text from the CoastZone newsletter from http://www.coasttocoastam.com. In it is a mention of Ty Bollinger and Michael Farley.
Ty Bollinger’s book “Cancer — Step Outside the Box” is worth getting, you can visit his website at http://www.cancertruth.net
Quote:
On Tuesday’s show, author and health freedom advocate, Ty Bollinger, and naturopathic doctor, Michael Farley, discussed the uses of herbal and natural medicines and addressed why harmless herbal products may be taken off the market while deadly drugs are still legal, and how the FDA is attacking herbs and vitamins. Recent articles declaring the inefficacy of dietary/herbal supplements are backed by Big Pharma, said Bollinger. But when it comes to products that have no medicinal value, he continued, statin drugs have been shown by pharmaceutical companies’ own research to not extend lifespans, and antidepressants actually double your risk of relapsing into depression.
The FDA is looking to change earlier legislation about dietary supplements, and gain further control over them, like the UN’s Codex Alimentarius is doing, Bollinger cautioned. Their restrictive plan would have supplement makers remove their products for 75 days, and fill out an approval application for each new ingredient combination since 1994, he detailed. Dr. Farley (joining the program in the third hour) cited the difference between allopathic medicine, which treats symptoms, and the naturopathic approach which treats the whole person. “Dr. Farley has developed numerous herbal remedies for cancer that are amazingly effective,” Bollinger said.
Among the natural compounds Farley cited were: Chrysin, a flavonoid from the Passion Flower, that works with hormone levels to prevent the invasion of cancer cells; Coriolus Versicolor, a Chinese mushroom which increases the cytotoxity of natural killer cells; Diindolymethane, a phytochemical from cruciferous vegetables that inhibits cancer cells; as well as turmeric, resveratrol, and green tea extract.
He also mentioned a quick, natural cure for food poisoning such as from E.coli or Listeria: a cup of raw honey mixed with a couple tablespoons of ginger.

11:11 11-11-11 Is Today!

What’s 11/11/11?
It’s a day!
.
Is it astrologically significant?
I don’t know! I don’t know astrology. I can’t even tell you if the date is really 11/11/11 for all I know the year might be wrong say 2014 instead of 2011, the date is probably normal and boring in other calendars (like the Muslim, Mayan, Hebrew calendars) today.
But, I can tell you the moon is full tonight!
And, no matter what the date astrologically (and corrected for error) might be, that doesn’t lessen the uniqueness of this day.
.
What’s so special about the date?
Nothing and everything!
It is what you make it. Just like everything else in our lives and society at large, it is what we, human-kind, decide to make of it, and is ultimately what we make it, as a society and on individual basis. (Think: christmas, rituals, holidays, money, brands, trends, music, laws, habits, best sellers, and others “labels” that we as a society create and agree to live by.. we created them, we made them all what they are).
So, consider making this day 11/11/2011 special.
.
Pray?
Consider saying a prayer, pausing for a minute, being thankful, being hopeful, being positive, wishing well to others, extending love and smiles to others..
.
Why?
Just because you want to.
.
Wont it be nice for you, to look back in 10 years form now, and know exactly what you were doing at 11:11 11/11/11 ?
Do something special, do nothing at all .. whatever suites you; just be aware of the moment.

The FDA – Anti You, Pro Who?
This article is special. I have collected and I am pasting here a series of emails from different sources, and a couple articles on the current debacle and the threat to your choice of natural and other nutritional supplements curtsy to the FDA and their fear mongering and abuse of government powers.
Allopathic medicine is pathetic, their drugs kill people, and now they are trying to make supplements sound like a dangerous drug.
At least 100,000 people die from pharmaceutical drugs each year.. almost none dies from supplements. Not to mention that pharmaceuticals are unnatural, often have side effects and are pulled out of the market after too many injuries or deaths. One also must remember that most pharmaceuticals cover the symptoms rather than help the body reach a balanced healthy state. Read this article “death by medicine” http://www.seekingwholeness.com/crazy-world/death-by-medicine

President Barack Obama has appointed two experts, one in food the other in drugs, to head up the soon to be reorganized Food & Drug Administration in preparation for an agency split that would separate the FDA into two — one agency to oversee foods and the other to regulate drugs. But just exactly where does that leave dietary supplements?
The Dietary Supplement Health & Education Act of 1994 (DSHEA) declares dietary supplements to be products intended to supplement the diet. But the FDA contends DSHEA severely limits the FDA in regulating a growing industry. A recently issued report from the General Accounting Office claims the FDA does not have the resources to adequately regulate dietary supplements. The GAO report appears to be part of an orchestrated effort to soften the public up for a major change in the classification and regulation of dietary supplements.
Supplements, vitamins, minerals, probiotics, herbs, etc are safer than pharmaceuticals. In fact, surveys conducted by poison control centers show dietary supplements to be the safest products of all.
Recently, the FDA classified a form of vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) as a new drug (Pyridorin, Biostratum) … Imagine having to need a prescription from a physician just to take vitamin B!
Now let’s see what these doctors have to say,

by William B. Grant, Ph.D.
(OMNS, Sept 16, 2011) Vitamin D has emerged as the nutrient of the decade. Numerous studies have found benefits for nearly 100 types of health conditions. These health benefits include reduced risk of bone diseases, many types of cancer, cardiovascular disease (CVD), diabetes mellitus, bacterial and viral infectious diseases, and autoimmune diseases such as multiple sclerosis,[1] neurological conditions such as cognitive dysfunction,[2] and improved athletic and physical performance.[3]
Sunshine, Skin, Sunburn, and Sunscreen
The primary source of vitamin D for most people is solar ultraviolet-B (UVB) light. Skin pigmentation has adapted to where a population lives for a thousand years or more as those with skin too dark or light do not survive as well as those with the appropriate skin pigmentation.[4] Dark skin protects against the harmful effects of UV, but also blocks the UVB from penetrating deeply enough into the skin to produce vitamin D from 7-dehydrocholesterol. Those with lighter skin can produce vitamin D more rapidly, but are more prone to melanoma and other skin cancer. Sunscreens block UVB and thus limit vitamin D production. While sunscreens are useful in reducing risk of sunburning, they do not block the long wave UV (UVA) as well as UVB. UVA is linked to risk of melanoma. Wearing sunscreen when there is no danger of burning can actually increase the risk of melanoma.[5]
Understanding Vitamin D Research
Since vitamin D production is the primary source of vitamin D, ecological and observational studies have been very useful in teasing out the effects of vitamin D on health. There are two types of ecological studies, based on geographical and temporal (over time) variations. In geographical studies, populations are defined geographically and both health outcome and risk-modifying factors are averaged for each geographical unit. Statistical analyses are then used to determine the relative importance of each factor. The first paper linking UVB and vitamin D to reduced risk of colon cancer was published in 1980.[6] This link has now been extended to about 15 types of cancer in the United States with respect to average noontime solar UVB doses in July.[7] Solar UVB doses in July are highest in the Southwest and lowest in the Northeast.[8] Mortality rates are generally lowest in the Southwest and highest in the Northeast.[9] Similar results have been found in Australia, China, France, Japan, Russia, and Spain, and the entire world.[10]
In temporal studies, seasonal variations in health outcomes are sought. A good example of a seasonal effect linked to solar UVB doses and vitamin D is influenza, which peaks in winter.[11]
Observational studies are generally of three types: case-control, cohort, and cross-sectional. In case-control studies, those diagnosed with a disease have serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D [25(OH)D] level or oral vitamin D intake determined at that time and are compared statistically with others with similar characteristics but without that disease. In cohort studies, people are enrolled in the study and the vitamin D index determined at that time. The cohort is followed for a number of years and those who develop a specific disease are compared statistically with matched controls who did not. The main problem with cohort studies is that the single value of the vitamin D index may not relate to the time in the individual’s life when vitamin D had the most impact on the disease outcome. Cross-sectional studies are essentially snapshots of a population and look at various factors in relation to the prevalence of health conditions. As biochemistry can be affected by health status, such studies provide less reliable information on the role of UVB and vitamin D on health outcome.
The role of vitamin D in CVD and diabetes mellitus type 2 have largely been studied using cohort studies. Significantly reduced risk of CVD and diabetes mellitus incidence have been reported in a number of studies in the past three years.[12]
Health policy officials like to see randomized controlled trials (RCTs) reporting health benefits with limited adverse effects. RCTs are certainly appropriate for pharmaceutical drugs which, by definition, are artificial substances that the human body has no experience with. RCTs with vitamin D are problematic for a number of reasons. For one, many RCTs used only 400 IU/day vitamin D3, which is much lower than the 10,000 IU/day that can be produced with whole-body exposure to the midday sun in summer, or 1500 IU/day from casual sunlight exposure in summer.[13] For another, there are both oral and UVB sources of vitamin D, so the amount taken in the study will compete with the other sources. There is considerable individual variation in serum 25(OH)D for a given oral vitamin D intake.[14] Unfortunately, serum 25(OH)D levels are generally not measured in oral vitamin D RCTs.
Nonetheless, there have been several vitamin D RCTs that found significant health benefits beyond preventing falls and fractures.[15] These include ones for cancer,[16],[17] influenza and colds,[18] type A influenza,[19] and pneumonia.[20]

Small-Scale Farmering is Better, Says UN Report
The “Agro-ecology and the right to food” confirmed what many in the traditional food movement already knew, traditional small-scale farming is better than large-scale factory farming.
My vision is to see a community farm in every town, neighborhood, or every few city blocks. Modernity and civilization do not have to equal a separation of people from the natural world. People are happier and healthier around plants and fresh food, people and food have always existed together, children need to see their food growing and pick up fresh food. This is better for the health, mind, soul, and as this report shows this is better for the society, economy, and the environment.
GENEVA (8 March 2011) – Small-scale farmers can double food production within 10 years in critical regions by using ecological methods, a new UN report* shows. Based on an extensive review of the recent scientific literature, the study calls for a fundamental shift towards agroecology as a way to boost food production and improve the situation of the poorest.
“To feed 9 billion people in 2050, we urgently need to adopt the most efficient farming techniques available,” says Olivier De Schutter, UN Special Rapporteur on the right to food and author of the report. “Today’s scientific evidence demonstrates that agroecological methods outperform the use of chemical fertilizers in boosting food production where the hungry live — especially in unfavorable environments.”
Agroecology applies ecological science to the design of agricultural systems that can help put an end to food crises and address climate-change and poverty challenges. It enhances soils productivity and protects the crops against pests by relying on the natural environment such as beneficial trees, plants, animals and insects.
“To date, agroecological projects have shown an average crop yield increase of 80% in 57 developing countries, with an average increase of 116% for all African projects,” De Schutter says. “Recent projects conducted in 20 African countries demonstrated a doubling of crop yields over a period of 3-10 years.”
“Conventional farming relies on expensive inputs, fuels climate change and is not resilient to climatic shocks. It simply is not the best choice anymore today,” De Schutter stresses. “A large segment of the scientific community now acknowledges the positive impacts of agroecology on food production, poverty alleviation and climate change mitigation — and this is what is needed in a world of limited resources. Malawi, a country that launched a massive chemical fertilizer subsidy program a few years ago, is now implementing agroecology, benefiting more than 1.3 million of the poorest people, with maize yields increasing from 1 ton/ha to 2-3 tons/ha.”
The report also points out that projects in Indonesia, Vietnam and Bangladesh recorded up to 92 % reduction in insecticide use for rice, leading to important savings for poor farmers. “Knowledge came to replace pesticides and fertilizers. This was a winning bet, and comparable results abound in other African, Asian and Latin American countries,” the independent expert notes.
“The approach is also gaining ground in developed countries such as United States, Germany or France,” he said. “However, despite its impressive potential in realizing the right to food for all, agroecology is still insufficiently backed by ambitious public policies and consequently hardly goes beyond the experimental stage.”
The report identifies a dozen measures that States should implement to scale up agroecological practices.
“Agroecology is a knowledge-intensive approach. It requires public policies supporting agricultural research and participative extension services,” De Schutter says. “States and donors have a key role to play here. Private companies will not invest time and money in practices that cannot be rewarded by patents and which don’t open markets for chemical products or improved seeds.”

Got The Sugar Blues? Duffy Has Good News!
I recently completed reading a book titled Sugar Blues by William Duffy, I picked it up at a closeout sale at a Borders bookstore for half price. I like this one, learned a few things from it and have since recommended it to a few friends. I also have largely gone on a sugar-free experiment. I also recommend you read this book, it’s a classic diet book, yet it sounds as if it was written a couple years ago, there might be a few outdated bits and pieces but again, this is a classic worth reading and has a wealth of insight to offer you. I had reduced my sugar intake for a few years, seeking to be “moderate”, this book is actually helping me far “very easily” resist sugar. I am almost sugar free these days. I appreciate the history in this book, you will learn about the history of sugar, and other things like fermenting, sauerkraut and beer. You will learn how sugar was invented, and you will be reminded that unlike salt (so essential people used it as currency in the past) sugar is a relatively new addition to our diet. This book touched me in a positive way, and I feel it will do the same with you. You just might never look at food and eating the same way again! all good positive things!
Well, what else does the book talk about? Duffy makes it clear how he dislikes how sugar is labeled (or not labeled) on products and how it is inaccurate to lump refined sugar with other healthy carbs under the same label name. See, not all carbs are the same, but a food label doesn’t tell you that, nor does it say how much added sugar is in a product. You might be surprised to learn what I learned about brown and raw sugar products, and what they put sugar in (ketchup, mayo, dressing, etc), you’ll read about sugar and the persians, indians, crusades, and even slavery! The book is easy to read as well, well documented and sourced.
Knowing what I know now, it is difficult to allow myself to eat sugar, and I have this book to thank. This books acts as an anti-sugar vaccine or an anti-sugar booster shot. If you crave sugar simply read this book and you will no longer crave it!
Sugar is not a nutrient, it is not empty calories either, it is actually an anti-nutrient, when you eat it you are eating something that takes away vitamins from your body to rid itself of sugar.. thus Duffy defines it as a poison, and I see why.
I’ve finished the book a weak ago only, I can say no to sugar now easily, I have resisted cravings and know what it feels like to eat sugar now vs. another source of calories, and I am still learning my body’s response and watching to see how my health will improve. I am unable to tolerate sugar in things now, many things smell and taste too sweet! I do not touch or crave the junk you find at gas stations or coffee shops. Instead of sugar I eat fruits, brown rice, potatoes etc.. real healthful calories. It’s a transition, for sure, but a good and natural one. I wish I had read this book 20yrs ago, as a kid I binged on sugar and now can see how it probably had negative effects on my health.
See, the thing is, “when it comes to sugar, the secret is not moderation but avoidance.”
I wont ramble much more..
You can find it at a very affordable price on amazon
This is the book description from Amazon:It’s a prime ingredient in countless substances from cereal to soup, from cola to coffee. Consumed at the rate of one hundred pounds for every American every year, it’s as addictive as nicotine — and as poisonous. It’s sugar. And “Sugar Blues”, inspired by the crusade of Hollywood legend Gloria Swanson, is the classic, bestselling expose that unmasks our generation’s greatest medical killer and shows how a revitalizing, sugar-free diet can not only change lives, but quite possibly save them.

Another Benefit of Toilet Paper
There was a time in history when humans had no toilet paper to use. You can ponder the idea of toilet paper, how much we rely on it, how much we use of it, how much it costs, the amount of waste generated and the environmental impact of making toilet papers. You can think about all these because you’re a human, no?
But, your cat doesn’t care, or maybe it does.
Sometimes, one just must have fun and play!

Words of Wisdom from a Healer
Below I quote a few paragraphs that are very true that a friend of mine who healed himself from cancer naturally and now helps hundreds of people, Dr Charles Morris said on his website www.distance-healer.com. The below are timeless words of wisdom from an experienced person. I often say very similar things to my clients, as truth is universal.
Read it and see if you agree, see if you can relate.
What is really frustrating to me is that even when I spend years researching things and put it all up on my website for free, no one takes the time to really study (or even read it thoroughly), and they then ask questions that are already on the website (i.e., they’re too busy to learn how to not die and won’t do the work necessary to maximize their health, including reading free information that took thousands of hours to compile and then is given to them for free. Most complain that blended vegetables don’t taste good, or they don’t like to take a lot of supplements (but they have no problem spending lots of money taking all kinds of trips to remote islands, drinking booze and eating bad food with the money that they claim would be “wasted” on supplements to fight their cancer with). Some actually ask if they were to take just one supplement (and not change their diet or lifestyle), if they can beat terminal, stage 4 cancer! When I tell them that they have to do some work to get better, they go back to the chemo and radiation doctors, and I hear soon afterwards that they’re dead.
Some people are determined to die in order to somehow “get even” with someone else – these people cannot be helped, no matter how good a protocol or doctor is; they give up the “will to live” and hasten their own death. Furthermore, no doctor wants to get into the middle of it and be blamed for it.
Also, if you believe someone or something has the power to kill you (as in voodoo), then you’ve empowered it to kill you and it may, unless you take the power to kill you away from it. The converse is also true. There is a book about 50 cancer survivors that illustrates this: each beat cancer in a different way; the only thing they had in common was the fierce belief that life was worth living and that they were going to beat cancer. Make sure that you WANT to live: there’s a huge difference between merely being afraid of dying and embracing life, loving life and wanting to live. Also, don’t give someone else the power to take away your will to live; if you’re not happy with your life, CHANGE IT! You don’t have to die to escape from it.
Bad habits, diet and lifestyle (and often a bad attitude/mindset and neglect of your spiritual self) lead to cancer by activating certain inherited genes that pre-dispose you to getting cancer. The good news is that 80% of these genes can be either activated or de-activated. What is necessary is to fully commit to doing what is necessary to get better and stay better. Once you beat cancer (for the rest of your life), in order to keep cancer from coming back, you’re going to have to keep from falling back into your old habits, because that is how you ended up getting cancer in the first place.
Your belief system can severely limit your available options, many of which are viable ones. Sure, there are quacks out there, but not every non-chemo and non-radiation treatment is quackery; follow the money, and try to step back and see outside of the box. I definitely recommend reading “Questioning Chemotherapy” by Ralph Moss: cancer is actually a cry from your body for help because it cannot tolerate your toxic diet and/or lifestyle – it is not a cry for you to flood it further with more toxins from chemo and radiation. The odds of beating it are MUCH greater when a person starts the protocol before they’re dying. Chemo works in less than 2% of cancers — and of those 2%, more than half of them get secondary cancers caused by the chemo. According to Dr. Blaylock, “It’s important to remember that secondary cancers are not recurrences of a previous cancer but entirely new cancers caused by the treatment. Most often, the secondary cancer is much more resistant to treatment than was the original cancer. Biopsies (including needle biopsies) also spread cancer in more than half of the cases.”
He also says on dosage:
Many people don’t seem to understand that the dosages of therapeutic supplements are critical, and that you can’t just take a few of the supplements along with chemo or radiation and increase your chances of success — the supplements try to build your body and immune system up and the chemo and radiation try to tear it down. I still take 175 pills/capsules each day, drink/chew two 10 ounce glasses of raw, organic vegetable juice along with a perfect diet, avoid toxic brands of cosmetics, cleaners, air fresheners, deodorants, soaps, etc., and make time to study what I need to know in order to survive (i.e., take charge of my health), not just blindly follow what some doctor tells me to do (i.e., delegate responsibility to someone else) — it all boils down to whether a person REALLY wants to live and is willing do what it takes, or not
Some colleagues have told me that it’s human nature to value something relative to its cost, and that people would value this information more and do more to help themselves if I were to charge them for it, but I want to help people who are hurting financially and not add to their burden of cancer.
One thing that might be confusing you is that therapeutic dosages of supplements (including vitamins) are a lot different from preventative dosages (RDA minimums — the amounts below which certain deficiency diseases appear) and have different effects; that’s why dosage is very important.
Symptoms of Hypothyroidism and Treatment
Video from Dr. Mercola. A great introduction to hypothyroidism.
Notes from the video clip below:
If your TSH blood test is over 1.5 (not 5.0) you likely are hypothyroid, confirm this with a free T3 and free T4 tests
Iodine deficiency is a common cause of hypothyroidism. Get enough Iodine , use SSKI to get Iodine
Avoid soy (it induces hypothyroidism) especially un-fermented soy
Use coconut oil
If you are hypothyroid, hormones can be used, Synthroid (T4) and other synthetic hormones are not recommended. If you have not been on synthetic hormones for a long time using armour thyroid is better (gives you T1, T2, T3 and T4). Eventually you may be able to not need hormones at all. Your allopathic physician will prescribe synthetic drugs, a holistic doctor will prescribe armour thyroid instead.
Enjoy:
I take Iodoral or Lugols and eat sea weed to get iodine into my diet. I do “not” use table salt. Table salt should be avoided. Also cruciferous vegetables inhibit the thyroid and they should be steamed before being eaten to remedy this.
Death by Medicine
Death by Medicine, Part I
By Gary Null PhD, Carolyn Dean MD ND, Martin Feldman MD, Debora Rasio MD, Dorothy Smith PhD
ABSTRACT
A definitive review and close reading of medical peer-review journals, and government health statistics shows that American medicine frequently causes more harm than good. The number of people having in-hospital, adverse drug reactions (ADR) to prescribed medicine is 2.2 million.1 Dr. Richard Besser, of the CDC, in 1995, said the number of unnecessary antibiotics prescribed annually for viral infections was 20 million. Dr. Besser, in 2003, now refers to tens of millions of unnecessary antibiotics.2, 2a
The number of unnecessary medical and surgical procedures performed annually is 7.5 million.3 The number of people exposed to unnecessary hospitalization annually is 8.9 million.4 The total number of iatrogenic deaths shown in the following table is 783,936. It is evident that the American medical system is the leading cause of death and injury in the United States. The 2001 heart disease annual death rate is 699,697; the annual cancer death rate, 553,251.5
TABLES AND FIGURES (see Section on Statistical Tables and Figures, below, for exposition)
ANNUAL PHYSICAL AND ECONOMIC COST OF MEDICAL INTERVENTION
| Condition | Deaths | Cost | Author |
| Adverse Drug Reactions | 106,000 | $12 billion | Lazarou1 Suh49 |
| Medical error | 98,000 | $2 billion | IOM6 |
| Bedsores | 115,000 | $55 billion | Xakellis7 Barczak8 |
| Infection | 88,000 | $5 billion | Weinstein9 MMWR10 |
| Malnutrition | 108,800 | — | Nurses Coalition11 |
| Outpatients | 199,000 | $77 billion | Starfield12 Weingart112 |
| Unnecessary Procedures | 37,136 | $122 billion | HCUP3,13 |
| Surgery-Related | 32,000 | $9 billion | AHRQ85 |
| TOTAL | 783,936 | $282 billion |
We could have an even higher death rate by using Dr. Lucien Leape?s 1997 medical and drug error rate of 3 million. 14 Multiplied by the fatality rate of 14% (that Leape used in 199416 we arrive at an annual death rate of 420,000 for drug errors and medical errors combined. If we put this number in place of Lazorou?s 106,000 drug errors and the Institute of Medicine?s (IOM) 98,000 medical errors, we could add another 216,000 deaths making a total of 999,936 deaths annually.
| Condition | Deaths | Cost | Author |
| ADR/med error | 420,000 | $200 billion | Leape 199714 |
| TOTAL | 999,936 |
ANNUAL UNNECESSARY MEDICAL EVENTS STATISTICS
| Unnecessary Events | People Affected | Iatrogenic Events |
| Hospitalization | 8.9 million4 | 1.78 million16 |
| Procedures | 7.5 million3 | 1.3 million40 |
| TOTAL | 16.4 million | 3.08 million |
The enumerating of unnecessary medical events is very important in our analysis. Any medical procedure that is invasive and not necessary must be considered as part of the larger iatrogenic picture. Unfortunately, cause and effect go unmonitored. The figures on unnecessary events represent people (?patients?) who are thrust into a dangerous healthcare system. They are helpless victims. Each one of these 16.4 million lives is being affected in a way that could have a fatal consequence. Simply entering a hospital could result in the following:
- In 16.4 million people, 2.1% chance of a serious adverse drug reaction,1 (186,000)
- In 16.4 million people, 5-6% chance of acquiring a nosocomial infection,9 (489,500)
- In16.4 million people, 4-36% chance of having an iatrogenic injury in hospital (medical error and adverse drug reactions),16 (1.78 million)
- In 16.4 million people, 17% chance of a procedure error,40(1.3 million)
All the statistics above represent a one-year time span. Imagine the numbers over a ten-year period. Working with the most conservative figures from our statistics we project the following 10-year death rates.
